Personally don't think it's a coincidence his best form coincided with Eriksen being injured, I love both to bits but they get under each-others feet in my opinion. I don't have the stats only the eye test but if you made a highlight reel for Lamela his main moments are typically central.
Also have to put his early season form into context. He was playing well and was our best player, but the rest of the team were all playing way below their levels.
I like Lamela but even at his best he’s isn’t close to getting in the first team if everyone else is performing.
Say that again please after tonight’s performance. The excuses get more convoluted. People just need to accept he isn’t good enough for Spurs.Lamela flourishes when he’s alongside Kane, Alli, Eriksen and Son. Unfortunately they’ve all missed chunks of games and rarely featured together this season. It’s not just Lamela that has struggled in their absence so it’s unfair to be over critical of him. You can say however that if he wants to be a starter then he should have stepped up to the plate and not been found wanting. It just shows that we lack strength in-depth in key areas when we’re missing more than one of our key attacking players... the stand ins can’t replicate the quality, consistency and fluidity the aforementioned players share between them.

We won't even pay going rates for starting midfielders or fullbacks. We sure as shit aren't going to pay big bucks for 4th & 5th string AM options. To me upgrading Lamela & Lucas comes like 5th or 6th on the list of needs. Something to look for but not something we should focus on with our limited funds.Everyone flourishes playing with that lot. I want players who can flourish on their own, and lift others around them. Lamela isn't it imo.
Not to mention looking like he's just had a few linesHis legs appear to go like pistons, but for some reason he still looks like he's treading treacle
