There's never been a statement from anyone that matters that playing Arsenal or some such rival is a no go as the first match.
It's internet rumour, whether Dan Kilpatrick wrote it, or Patrick from the local pub.

Because we don't know when we will be able to play a game there, but we hold hope it will be this season.

It may well do, so it just comes down to whether we want that disruption at the end of this season or at the start of a new season. Personally I think it makes sense to do it in a season that's already been disrupted by playing at another ground but I can see the arguments either way.
As for taking the shine off the opening if we do it mid-season, I can see what you're saying, but it would be an extremely expensive bit of gloss to delay it until next season for that reason. If it's costing £1M a game at Wembley and we could have another seven games there then you're talking about enough money to fund the wages of one of our top players for over three and a half years. Is it really worth that?
We’d have pre season games there if we waited until next season so wouldn’t be going in cold. That’d be the difference.

I have kept faith with the club throughout, excited about the new ground, understood the delays but i have had enough of them now.
This is vastly incompetent and the club don't deserve any further support or understanding.
Such a shame at the point at which we have a great team, that we our chances are hindered by this hopeless ineptitude.

I just think that: new stadium - new season feels right. Give the players time to get the feel of the place, maybe a couple of friendlies and part of why I feel like that is probably the feeling of a new start coinciding with a new season.

It's just common sense though. The police will want to run through their processes before a high risk game like that. They need to know how many officers, where to place them, etc etc, before they have to deal with the aggro that is always evident with ferrying the away fans from Seven Sisters and back.

To be honest, I'd be far more concerned about some one like West Ham or Millwall.
I've been to 3 NLD's and never seen problems. 4 Chelsea matches, always been fine. 4 West Ham matches I've felt uncomfortable and that Millwall FA Cup game was horrible.

Problem you've got, home game after Arsenal is Crystal Palace which is Fa Cup QF weekend. One after that is Brighton which is Fa Cup SF weekend. Could be at Mid April before we know it with a whole load of midweek games which apparently they're not keen on.

It's still the highest risk category for policing along with the other teams mentioned. It wont happen

Sorry mate, I wasn't trying to underestimate the inconvenience that this has caused the fans. What I mean is that in the context of this particular update, it is just a continuation of an existing situation. I know people are pissed off.

I've been to NLDs and there has been aggro outside Park Lane before. Usually with the kettling of the away fans and little skirmishes. I think the worst ones have always been the evening league cup ties though. Not the same as running to the Tube at Upton Park being chased by loads of Tommy Robinson types, I'll grant you, but tension nonetheless.

Also, can't see how we'd want a defining moment in our history potentially sullied by a defeat to them.
