I think people are getting carried away with thinking he’s definitely off this summer. If anybody activated his clause it would make him the third most expensive player transfer over 30 years old of all time. I’d say that there’s a strong possibility nobody activates it.

To be honest mate I think you're being extremely optimistic here. I do agree though that there will be a limited number of clubs who will pay him the wages he wants...unfortunately they are the same group of clubs who can bang out 25M without thinking.

I am here to be proven wrong, but I am absolutely 100% convinced he's off this summer...

There are too many doped clubs treading the FFP tightrope for him not to be attractive IMO.

What about Hummels at Bayern as a replacement. Rumour has it he is being transfer listed
I don't think we'll buy a star replacement. I think Sanchez and Foyth will rotate with Jan, and we'll buy someone lesser known.

I think this is the logic in not selling him this summer. They younger players will all be a year further ahead

I probably am being optimistic, but like I said, third most expensive over 30 player of all time. If you’re a club with that money, do you spend it on the 30 year old who’s spent large chunks of the past three seasons injured, or the 20 year old who, if a success, doubles in value inside a year or maybe even gives you 10 years of service? In much the same way that none of us would trade Kane for Bale or Eriksen for Modric right now, I feel that the clubs who can offer Alderweireld better than we can will be more likely to buy the superstar of the next decade than the declining stalwart.

Initially, although they may well have to pull the trigger on him next summer if they get priced out of Koulibaly, Skriniar, Maguire, De Ligt as teams have in the past.

It will be a big package considering his wages but I think a lot of clubs would be tempted with negotiation with Levy off the table. Liverpool, Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal could all be in the CB market, let alone european clubs.

Although quite a few operate a 1-2 year policy on 30+ players so I do agree there's a chance there's no takers. Hopefully an agreement can be reached before the summer.

No doubt Levy will feel sick at the prospect of losing Toby for free at the end of next season (summer 2020), so if a fresh contract won't be signed by Toby, Levy will see who will want to buy him whilst he is valued at 25M this summer.

But here's a question... what value does Toby have for our playing squad by playing out the last year of his contract? He is a world class defender still within his prime years, so is there an argument to turning down the 25M bids in the summer in favour of getting best value out of him on the pitch for next season? Who knows, with him helping us fight again for trophies next season, he could change his mind and sign a new contract with a big signing on fee

It looked over the summer as if De Ligt would come in and Toby would leave - now it seems De Ligt holding out for Barca or PSG and Toby didnt get much interest for our price tag. At least we're getting another good season from him, for 25m, we'll be able to sign a good younger or two in the Foyth mould.

Or, better yet, upgrade all the toilets in the stadium with bidets.

So we would have taken £25 million last summer?

Nobody could have come in for him then, and we must have been pretty keen to move him on as that figure seems low doesn’t it. But now he’s played virtually every game this season. Something doesn’t add up on this to me. Something’s changed.

Something did change in the summer, according to ITK.

Toby had done something disrespectful to Poch or the squad, but he apologised, and that was that. I think it might have been Poch going to lengths to convince DL that Toby deserved a new fat contract. And Toby or his stupid agent father then reneged on the agreement, looking for more money, and making Poch look like a fool.

Would still love for him to sign a new contract though, he's probably been our most consistent performer this season so far.

If I were Liverpool, I’d pay £25m for Toby in the summer and then partner him with van Dyke.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they targeted him as he’s an upgrade on Lovren, can pay him the wages he wants and are at present, more ambitious than us.

I’d hate for him to go but £25m is peanuts for him and I think he’s only 29 so good few years left in him.

Lets say he was holding out for a big pay day for another club, he will likely have to wait until his contract expires and can leave for free now meaning he would have spent 3 additional seasons on his current salary instead of taking the bumper deal we offered back in 16/17 seaaon. Talk about being poorly advised, cant see him getting a wage offer to make up for those 3 seaaons.

I can absolutely see this happening. They can get him for almost the same price as the sale of Solanke and loan fee for Clyne to Bournemouth.

That is frightening...

Not that simple. They still have to pay him upwards of £150k per week as that is what he wants. From info received it’s seems like he was happy with our terms until VVD moved and he wanted parity or close to what he was being paid, it seemed to go tits up after that. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Are the scousers seriously going to bring Toby in on £150k + per week when it could stifle the development of Joe Gomez who the fans adore and has settled really well alongside VVD??

I don’t see it myself
