Really depressing how efficient Chelsea are with their transfers. A threat of Hazard leaving, so they get his replacement signed up in no time flat, a player we've been chasing for years.

I have to say I don't see Real just stopping at Hazard if they want to rebuild. Question is, if they do go for Eriksen, can we or will we move as decisively to replace him?

pay over the odds - check
pay ridiculous salaries - check

not sure it's very efficient when you can just offer unlimited fees/salaries, same as liverpool and city have been doing for years now.

£58M isn't over the odds for Pulisic. Given what a huge marketing opportunity he is in the States, he's a potential money making machine.

How long do we look at the teams we're competing with and criticise them for spending too much on fees, agents and wages, while they keep winning trophies? While we witness the break up of our greatest modern day side and manager having won nothing, because we decided the market that everyone else takes part in was inflated.

fair point. just making the case that it's easy to do transfers when you have no issues with fee or wages. It's why they can always seemingly do transfers in hours where it takes us months if not years. if they/city/united/liverpool have a need they just go and pay whatever it takes to fill it. just annoys me because this is the one real area we just cannot compete in.

Yep, and we haven't even needed to replace key squad players yet (aside from Walker), because noone aside from him has left or retired.

Chelsea have been run pretty much within their means for a few years now. With our increased turnover there's absolutely no reason we couldn't afford this Pulisic deal (if Poch had wanted it). Unfortunately it seems we are only prepared to be ambitious and speculate off the pitch, but never on it.

If he's on 150/200k a week, walking into a dressing room full of players on said wage... They'll be no resentment. Do that at spurs... Well, everyone would want parity. We just can't pay those wages.

We can. Our turnover is approaching (or possibly surpassing) £400M pa. Sensible practice is wages @ 55% of turnover. So we absolutely could and should have a wage bill of £200M pa, if we have any true intention of competing for trophies. Too be fair to the club Kane and Dele's new deals reflect this, as should what they're (presumably) offering CE. However, that doesn't seem to be reflected in any way in our transfer dealings. It's quite clear we're reaching the critical mass of this cycle, with Pochettino, Eriksen and Alderweireld all seemingly leaving this summer. Why we aren't being proactive to show those key personnel that they can achieve their goals at THFC, is absolutely beyond me.

So it isn't about money with either of these two, it is about buying more players, of a higher standard? (i'm just making sure I don't misunderstand)

Your snarky tone is a bit pointless.

It seems to me pretty obvious that players want to win things. And when you're close, and you're reaching or have arrived at your peak, you're looking to your club to see if they share your ambitions. So yes, it is absolutely about money -- what is your club prepared to do to take the final step? Are they truly focused on becoming a top club that wins things? And are they willing to show the same ambition on the pitch as they are in building stuff off the pitch? Or is it just about building a stadium, a training ground, a lodge, for which there is apparently a bottomless pit of money where no expense is spared, but absolutely none of that bottomless pit makes its way onto the pitch.

If I was Christian Eriksen and I saw that Spurs were targeting players from the Championship or unproven players from the Norwegian league who might be a top player in 2 or 3 years as the only signings, I would absolutely leave the club.

Efficient possibly but not successful. They almost get their deals done in spite of others then realise their deals don't actually work out in the long run.

Batshuayi they did well but almost in spite of us and it didn't work for him there. Morata they completed 'efficiently' but again hasn't worked out or been successful. They also still need a striker as they've been unable to replace Costa and it says a lot that their closet replacement has been Giroud.

So it is now about buying players, not being paid the wages?

It changes every year.

Think that'll have something to do with progression, but patience is a virtue.

As far as being snarky, get over yourself.
