I am starting to have concerns about Winksy's injury. It seems to keep bothering him. I hope upon hope it does not leave him constantly having to manage a condition as that would be tragic.

Cook would add to the likes of Amos and Skipp. We have to be patient with Skipp, help him develop properly. he is very exciting, dynamic, but he is still very young, so will need some further development time. I think Amos can def step up short-term, which is excellent, and he is 21 so has been around the club for a while. Cook is a total "Poch" signing IMO.

Agree about Winks.

Haven’t seen enough of the other two to know what they’re about but, make no mistake, if we lose Dembele in that midfield we lack so much experience, ball retention, power and the ability to dominate the very best players.

If he goes, we’d need a kid at the sort of levels Steven Gerrard was at as a kid to even attempt to replicate his ability to dominate.

However, I do concede that it’s unrealistic we will go out and buy someone to directly replace Dembele. It’s why it doesn’t surprise me that Poch is pressing home this need for youth players to show ‘intensity’, as you can be eaten alive at PL level if you step into the pitch without it.

Also I wasn't aware that he captained the England U20 Team to winning the World Cup in 2017 (I believe). He seems to have a good pass rate, successful take ons, he could be a really promising player to bring in if the money is right.

Not the glamour signing we're looking for but he definitely has potential

Guess who played alongside him in that England U20 midfield? We wouldn't even have to pay a fee for him. Shows what a waste that Villa loan might have been.

As much as Martial, Zaha and De Ligt would be far sexier signings, someone like Lewis Cook would fill a hole in a position where we're desperately lacking. The fact that we finished 3rd in the league with Sissoko as a semi-regular part of our midfield 2 is a bloody miracle. It's like winning with a handicap. With a competent footballer who has a reasonable first touch, shows for the ball and can pick a pass we'd look a lot better.

Also, as someone who watched Bournemouth quite regularly, he's better than Winks. Let's get that out of the way.

I love Winks, but Cook has a good amount more to his game than him. IMO Cook is ready for a top 6 club right now.

I've just done an Opta comparison of Kovacic, Cook & Winks. Cook smashes it on both of them, even when I look at the amount of minutes all three have played. Not sure how to share I would if I could.

you might've had it on totals, not per 90? I don't see anything standout?

I had it on average per game and different stats to what you had I believe. Not sure what I had it on but whatever it was it looked impressive. I'll check them again tomorrow

Looking at that I don't see why Kovacic is so highly rated. Obviously stats don't always tell the full story BUT based on that it looks like he's not afraid to take people on & passes the ball well but otherwise doesn't appear to contribute too much end product (ire chances created or assists) ?? How old is he ? If he's young then this is a great starting point for Poch to work with.

If he is Luka's understudy at Madrid why exactly would you expect those other "contributional" statistics? This is not confrontational I am just asking the question. None of these players in that graphic would be expected to fit an Eriksen type role but they would be expected to play the pass before the killer pass as well as the donkey work.

I guess given the amount of hype about him by folk on here, I expected more impressive stats. As you say if he's a Modric type player then that makes some sense. I have never seen him play and really have no idea what kind of player he was.

Yeah, he is a decent player but people go on about him beyond his actual abilities or at least that which has been displayed IMO - English hype machine in full force. I was lead to believe he was better than he is during the U21(?)WC. When I watch the games I was underwhelmed but folks kept going on about his performance and captaincy.

I guess we will see but he is also a Stellar client (like Grealish) so he this might all just be a ruse.

Onomah was by far the better of the two at that world cup. Having said that, Onomah should have gotten the player of the tournament award imo (I watched most of the matches live). Cook did his job which allowed Josh to flourish but he was very safe in that role. No real errors but nothing amazing offensively either. Very conservative.

The Express is also carrying the story both attributed to Alex Crook. I am not super familiar with UK tabloids so are they the same or owned by the same parent company?
The Express is now owned by the same group that own The Mirror

I am not going to allow spurs to beat me down to the point I become excited about this. We're in the champions league and this player isn't going to push us forward

Judging by most opinions it seems most haven’t seen him play.

He’s a tidy player, technically good. Would be happy with this especially if it was to replace Sissoko.

He’s young, home grown, has the potential to get much better and makes the weakest part of our squad considerably stronger than it is now. We are way past the point of being able to be picky over transfers like this in this window, hope it happens.
