TBH mate I'd love him in all forms. If I were the ECB I'd split the Test and one-day coaching and then throw money at Sussex to let Jason Gillespie take over the Test team.

I'm trying to think of batsmen who are knocking on the door. Who was our opener who showed promise before breaking his finger? Asian name I think.
Do we have anything hiding away you know of? I'm trying to find a county cricket thread that has a batting/bowling ave attached. No luck so far.Haseeb Hameed. Can't buy a run this season. Dropped by Lancashire.
Nasser Hussain just nailed it.
"can't bat when it does move around and can't bowl when it doesn't"...
not a great combo.

Nooooooo.....you can't have him! I want him involved in the Aussie set up, and besides, as a South Aussie, he's one of our own!If I were the ECB I'd split the Test and one-day coaching and then throw money at Sussex to let Jason Gillespie take over the Test team.
possession is 9/10ths of the law ol'chap.Nooooooo.....you can't have him! I want him involved in the Aussie set up, and besides, as a South Aussie, he's one of our own!
Dropped and making an absolute shitload of runs again for the 2nd XI. OK they aren't "proper" runs but he's on the right road to a return to 1st class cricket. I think he gets a recall as soon as he strings a couple of scores together.Haseeb Hameed. Can't buy a run this season. Dropped by Lancashire.

"Keaton has found good form in county cricket this season, including three centuries in his past seven innings"
Really Ed Smith? Really?
Congratulations of already making yourself and the selection committee look like the fucking jazzers you already are.
They should have stripped the team top to bottom and started build (test wise) for what is to come in the future. Instead band aids and lipstick on a pig that is lame and needed to be put out of its fucking misery.
Based on those currently attached (Woakes missed out this time) or you mean if I had stripped it and injuries hadn't happened (Leach) etc? What would your squad be for the second Test?

It would be something like this -If, as you suggested, they stripped it out from top to bottom and built for the future.
It would be something like this -
Cook - Jennings is on standby even though it's happened now.
Gubbins - played well on the Lions tour and has continued form with the bat early doors this season.
Root - He remains captain because the only other person you might think of is Stokes? (seriously the captain issue stumps me)
Livingstone - Should have started that last test in NZ with all the furore around Vince.
Bairstow - People might argue Foakes but nah.
Stokes - Yep.
Moeen Ali - not sure why he has been treated in such a way but he offers enough with bat in ball with a good supporting cast.
Sam Curran - Takes wickets.
Leach - should have gotten a call up long before this but ECB (also I think a bowling action change)
Woakes - Bowling is problematic thought before he picked up that injury his pace, line and length were all set.
Anderson - How do you replace him? The young bowled at Yorkshire? ...
That's how I would have done it bar all. I think they treated young Duckett like shit and he was as exciting a prospect wielding a bat as there was in the country about a season ago ... Hameed I mentioned. Bess like Crane are going to need time as spinners, but they both deserve looks. It's the batting in the middle order and the front line bowlers that concern me the most.
6 of them are in the current squad with Leach injured, but I think that team is actually the way it's going.
Moeen just lost form but he did well in the IPL and will have some confidence back so it won't be long before he's in there.
Curran, Sam is a leftie which I think gives him the nod over Curran, Tom, who was drafted into the last Ashes Test and didn't disgrace himself.
Gubbins must be knocking hard on the door. And Livingstone ... might as well, and may do so if Malan doesn't get some runs.
Bit harsh on Buttler, maybe.
