Looking at Atletico tonight, Arsenal were getting the ball into the box putting on pressure and Atletico gatting the ball with last ditch defending, and then it dawns on you that it wasn't last ditch and there was absolutely no panic, the ball comes fizzing across the six yard box and they wer completely comfortable, you could almost see them thinking right I'll just flip this up and over almost casually, just so comfortable.
As I was writing this Jermaine Jenas on BT started saying pretty much the same thing.:)

....and relax. A few more chess pieces to move nicely (us getting third, scousers losing final) and then I'd be very satisfied.

If we every drop into this tournament again though I want us to go blood and bluster to win it. Goons got all the way to the semis without really playing anyone difficult and could quite easily have drawn Marseille or Salzburg instead. United the year before too, won it without playing anyone of note.

Most of the time we were in it there wasn't the chance of a CL spot. Was it 2015 when it came in I think ?

Man Utd definitely targeted it last year and I reckon Arse went for the back door option as well, to double their chances.

Its a tough trade-off though. Arsenal are out of CL - again. Man United had to win Europa to make it back to CL.

If you are still competing for CL spots - the smart money says to focus on the league. I know fans want to win trophies, but clubs run on money, and CL group stage pays a lot more money than even winning Europa. So, the goal should be to qualify for CL as best you can. For Man United and Arsenal, they were out of contention for top-4 when they made their Europa league runs, so that was their only path, and it made sense to go for the win.

I think with me it's 50 years of seeing Arsenal snatch a spunky something in the 98th minute with a large touch of controversy that kept me in a mild state of anguish.

I'm watching extra time at Salzburg v Marseille and quite honestly Uefa might as well get Madrid's name engraved on it now.

They hold their own consistently in a league with goal machines Barcelona and Real Madrid. Their problem is that they don't score enough goals themselves, which usually costs them in the bigger competitions (CL/La Liga). If they could remedy that, they would be an unbelievable side.
