Amadou Haidara getting rave reviews for Salzburg tonight apparently we've been scouting him recently.

@Blake Griffin
Re Haidara

Watched the 60 minute highlight program of the first leg of the Marseille/Salzburg, and couldn't really get a good feel for the guy, so actually decided to watch the whole game tonight instead of the AM/Arsenal game.

He seemed to be playing RM of a CM3. He seems to be one another of those 6/8 hybrids, bit like NDombele. Physically strong, dynamic, robust, tenacious, technically good, can move with the ball. He scored a fabulous goal where picks up the ball, rides three challenges and slots it home from 15 yards. I've yet to see him demonstrate the kind of vision and execution that Keita has (and Ndombele to a lesser extent) but his passing was progressive and quick. Would like to see more of the kid.

I also quite liked the number 8, Sammassekou.

That was a great game by the way, (Salzburg v Marseille) A bit lacking in top quality individual input maybe, Marseille probably had the better individuals in attacking areas, but Salzburg's had the energy, and their young midfield got right at it second half, got the two goals back and then the game turned into a bit of a slug fest, Marseille going at it for the last 20 minutes of normal time, then Salzburg going at it for most of extra time. Very harsh on Salzburg to concede from a corner that shouldn't have been but I think Marseille are probably just the better side.

Most of the time we were in it there wasn't the chance of a CL spot. Was it 2015 when it came in I think ?

Man Utd definitely targeted it last year and I reckon Arse went for the back door option as well, to double their chances.

That's just so Wenger!

People on here still can’t spell Eriksen. Signing this guy would be a disaster!

I understand referees and linesmen are supposedly human and prone to mistakes, but the wrongful award of a corner to Marseille last night was shocking.

A corner that Marseille scored from and meant they reached the Europa final.

After battling back from a 2-0 deficit from the 1st leg to force extra time, I have to admit I felt so sorry for RB Salzburg.

There was of course the additional goal line referees in conjunction with ref and usual assistant referees.

Nope, not one spotted the ball clearly hitting a Marseille player and going out for a goal kick. Corner award instead.

Where was VAR, was it present, is it allowed to be used in instances of this nature.

The award of the corner might not have met the criteria, but I'm pretty sure the resulting goal feckin did.

RB Salzburg only lost one game before reaching the semi-final, (including group stage) and that was against Lazio whom they beat and knocked out in the second leg.

I think they did remarkably well over the course of their Europa campaign, and should rightly feel very aggrieved to have gone out in this manner.

And some dont want VAR.
It has to come in when both European competitions are having every other game from quater finals onwards decided by the bloody referee.
As long as the VAR isnt the incompetent, ballsed up, who the fk set this shit up, version we have at the moment I'm all for it.

Don't. It's a bankrolled plastic club, they don't deserve titles.

They are a Swiss version of Man city.

Mmm...maybe big in Switzerland, but I have a sneaky suspicion that they might just fall short in the standard of player comparison stakes.

On that basis...in Europe, I think they've done rather well.

Looking at Atletico tonight, Arsenal were getting the ball into the box putting on pressure and Atletico gatting the ball with last ditch defending, and then it dawns on you that it wasn't last ditch and there was absolutely no panic, the ball comes fizzing across the six yard box and they wer completely comfortable, you could almost see them thinking right I'll just flip this up and over almost casually, just so comfortable.
As I was writing this Jermaine Jenas on BT started saying pretty much the same thing.:)

I was somewhat take aback by some of the comments on BT from Keown and Savage. At half time I'm sure Keown said that Arsenal had dominated and I honestly couldn't understand how he had reached that conclusion. They had had more of the ball in the first half but not by so much that you could even say they dominated possession. Second half they put Atletico under pressure for a spell of about 15-20 minutes and Robbie Savage was talking up the performance like they were being kept out by another Oblak masterclass, but like you say, Atletico looked comfortable for most of the game and Oblak only had to make one save all night.

I didn't watch the 2nd leg of the Liverpool/Roma tie but from what I've read BT's commentary was equally blinkered then. I know BT play up to the audience more than most broadcasters but they're getting ridiculous. I think most* of the people from Arsenal Fan TV would have been more balanced than Savage was last night!

*Not Ty obviously - he's probably arguing the pitch was unplayable because of Koscielny's injury.
