Ha, must say if you'd pointed out some of Dier's flaws in midfield two seasons ago, as some of us did, the neg ratings and 'wtf' comments came thick and fast. The comments tonight make interesting reading...

I will be the first to admit that his first season in CM surprised me, but he also wasn't as advanced as he has been playing as of late. He dropped to the right of Toby for the majority of that season so he was rarely pressured as he is now. With his current positioning he is being caught out and his break up play is just no where near the level it needs to be at.

But it's true...he needs to take a look in the mirror and realize his physical limitations define him as a CB; tall, strong, and just quick enough to cover the back.

Seems everyone thinks City are going to walk the league we may as well just pack up and head off home. It's not as if we've challenged for the league for the last 2 years.

Sell the lot, because if you guys don't believe in them and throughout the season you are going to play the

"Poor old Tottenham we can't spend like the others" card there is literally no point, as you are getting as bad as levy himself.

We either start acting like a big club or trying to be realistic challengers or we accept what we are a profit making business and go back to midtable mediocrity.

Never seen a fan base like it we've came second and third in the last two seasons but now because the other teams are spending millions we are all waving the white flag that's not the Tottenham way.
Every season a team wins the title in july/August, amazing how many times they don't end up with a winners medal.

They just beat the European champions 4-1. Do you think Real Madrid care? I doubt it because they know it's a pre-seasons friendly. Let's see how the players do in a meaningful game before going totally doolally.

I bet the Real Madrid players put some effort in though I'm not worried about the result I'm worried about the attitude

The bad news is, I feel exactly as I did in the last two preseasons. There's no evidence that Poch knows how to turn 11 players into more than the sum of their parts, we persist in passing back to a 'keeper who is possibly the worst kicker of a football in the Prem, and our tactics seem to be limited to the desire to get as many people as possible in front of the ball, with their backs to the opposition goal and standing still.

The good news is, the last two seasons we finished third then second, so I probably know fuck all. I hope. Please...

Pochettino after the game: "Maybe today they have a bit of an advantage - they're ahead of us because they sign and they keep the players they want."

Wooops..
Well, if that doesn't open the wallet, we may be heading for trouble in paradise.

Mauricio: "They were better. It's always tough to lose but the result is not the priority. We are working to get fit."

I was only responding to the quote, I don't honestly believe a single friendly would have little if any influence on our plans.

While the result is pretty irrelevant it is a little concerning that our starting line up was not far away from our strongest team with the exception of Wanyama who hopefully will be back for the start of the season and Son and Rose who won't. The argument put forward has been that our first team is possibly still the strongest in the league and we only need a couple of back up players.
I didn't watch the match but reading through some of the posts it looks like our strong starting line up on paper just didn't perform.
By the way , what is the issue with Wanyama ?

I only caught about 15 mins of the first half vs city but watched the whole game against roma.

My first thought against roma was 'where's our pressing'. We've been accustomed to our forward players swarming their defensive players in an instant and apart from the first 5 mins of the game it was non-existent and non-existent against man city from what I saw

Are we seeing the high pressing tactics over the last 2 seasons taking its toll on our players now?

Man city looked sharp. Definately challenging from the off this year.
