Jjetset saying lemar to Arsenal is done. Kill me

It is what it is dude. Arsenal are in full desperation mode (like City) so have no doubt totally over-payed for him in EVERY respect.

The game is going totally to shit IMO. As Levy said yesterday, this current spending is not sustainable and is nothing short of embarrassing.

Can't decide if that means the ice cream/cornetto was (or was not) a cryptic...

From what I can gather from the replies he was saying that the player he was previously talking about is one that we are indeed signing and it's related to the ice cream and because we are actually signing someone, this is what could cause a meltdown.

In no way is it unsustainable for arsenal. They're sitting on a cash pile of over £200M.

This whole game is going to shit thing was trotted out when Spurs signed greaves and Gascoigne. When Blackburn signed shearer. When Madrid paid 80m for Ronaldo.

Weirdly the market continues to rise, the game doesn't go to shit and the clubs who buy the best players continue to win the trophies.

It's completely different now, as I'm sure you are aware.

Clubs are spunking dough that they've got from the new TV deal and seemingly budgeting as if they will receive the same amount when that deal is renewed.

It is probable that the next TV deal will be far less lucrative than this current one, so clubs like Wham and Palace are going to find themselves a bit fucked and having to sell their better players.

As you say, though, Arsenal will be fine, as will the other big clubs.

Ok fine, so what are you angry about? The fact that Arsenal are signing Lemar and we're not?

It wouldn't surprise me that the ice cream was never a cryptic, just a continuation of the Italian theme and SC ran with it being hidden info. The meltdown comment could simply be a reference to the previous (non-cryptic) ice cream comment about an Italy-based player.

JJ has said in a previous convo the other day that there's no cryptic involved. He was clear about the fact that it was a player from Italy and that's as far as he's gone so those suggesting it's got something to do with cornettos and northern italy are going a bit far I think.

With that in mind, I'm hoping the player is indeed Keita Balde because he's super talented and would be an exciting addition.

This, but one could say it a thousand times and people would just carry on asking if the players would cost hundreds and thousands or other ice cream related gags :D

Italy is N'ice' at this time of year / 'Ice cream'

La Carraia. Florence. Florence is the birthplace of gelato, so it's no surprise that two of the country's best gelaterias are here. ...

He definitely means something by 'Cornetto', though. Somebody asked him if his "Cornetto was okay?" and he said he was waiting to hear - means the word Cornetto obvs means summink. Just accept @c_jones1978's theory above and assume we're going to sign Keita Balde, I know you want him, too.

The argument for the TV money potentially peaking has some weight (see Sky having to shake up their packages as the prices are too high), but unfortunately for us, Levy's comments relate more to the clubs from 7th down and not above.

United - Insane commercial income makes them FFP gods. Largest stadium also helps.
Chelsea/City - bankrolled/supported by keen Billionaires. Strong commercial income.
Liverpool - Strong commercial income and recently increased stadium size, plus ambitious owners.
Arsenal - Desperate, historical cash reserves, highest match day income in UK. Sanchez could be sold.

I highly doubt these teams are leveraging heavily on TV money right now, whereas the likes of Palace, West Ham, etc... may well be. Personally with BT Sport and Sky competing I feel the money will not drop considerably for the next 5-10 years.

So we are stuck in limbo behind the 5 clubs mentioned above, and the only true way to bridge that gap is to gain increased commerical revenue (stadium is great but there is a cap in the increased revenue that brings, unlike commerical). The best way to do that? Success on the pitch. We are close and should be doubling down on this to try and give ourselves the best chance, but Levy is trying to be too clever, and as a result increasing the odds of failure...

Cornetto just refers to JJs Italy link IMO, reference to the prior ITK rather than reference to the actual player.
