I remember reading that there is only a year left on his current contract. Might be wrong though.
I'd like us to sign him up as I think there's a lot more to come from him. He's taken a while to settle but he looks a different player to the guy who first showed up. Still don't think he makes a telling impact as often as he could, felt the Southampton game was crying out for a moment of magic from him but we got stuck passing it square too many times.

I love these guys one minute, and honestly couldn't give a rat's ass about them the next.

Hope Lamela stays for many years. But ultimately, whatever.

I don't think he meant he wants to stay one more year and then leave.
Taken out of context I suspect.
There's a quote. It's totally ambiguous.

Honestly, I feel comfortable in Tottenham, I'd like to stay one more year here. We are a brave group, very competitive. Hopefully everyone can stay together so we can improve and win some [form of] title.

Bearing in mind that English is not his first language
and by all accounts not too good
then this does not mean for one year only.
He say that he is keen to stay at Spurs for another year
and for many years to come possibly.

I think he means he definitely doesn't want go anywhere this summer, and not to necessarily put a time limit on his stay at Spurs.

His command of English isn't very strong and it isn't his first language. It is a shame that the media chose to use the ambiguity, miss queue and controversial value of that statement as an attention-grabbing headline. That was a low-blow.

The place he gave the quote to - TyCSports.com - is a Spanish site.

I don't trust the Standard to have translated it correctly, they can barely manage to form a cogent piece in English.

Fucking hell, straws, at grasping......

I understood his broken English, Italian, semi Argentinian to mean..

"I want to stay for twenty five years"

Half the people on here think stuff is made up without any quotes and totally made up with quotes.

Read the article, not the headline. He means 'another year', as several people have already observed.

“Honestly, I feel comfortable in Tottenham, I'd like to stay one more year here"

I see no difference between "one more year" and a fictitious "another year" i mean a year is a year whether it be one more or another.

Tbh I like Lamela but he is hardly irreplaceable. For the amount we paid for him it hasn't proved a good investment , especially if he is running down his contract. He has given us 1 dire season, 1 average and 1 good but not amazing. We paid 25 m and even after improved form this season I doubt we would get much more than 15m if we sold him now. The club has been very patient with him and hopefully the rumours are not true so he can give something back.

Not grasping at straws mate.
I don't agree with your view.
I like to think Lamela is intelligent enough to realise that if he was planning on staying for 1 more year only then he wouldn't go spouting it to the press.

Most likely journo asked will you be staying next year he says yes I will certainly stay next year, why leave etc..

Far less likely he used such a platform to pitch for a contract extension, or to alert Spanish clubs to his availability?

I believe he originally signed for five years so Levy wont want him going past Christmas absolute latest before signing another. Otherwise he's on the transfer list. but in spite of his huge improvement could we actually get our money back?

If more sites pick up on this, and no Lamela article appears on the official site in the near future to reinforce how much he loves it here, Lamelas army of fanboys will stat to tremble with fear, and possibly anger too!
