Bluemoon is being way, way, way too pessimistic about their chances. We're in form, but we're not unbeatable or super-human. We're probably favourites, but only just. It's really an on-the-day situation.
Look at it through their eyes though.

Your best defender is injured and when that happens your defense is basically crap. Plus your two best midfielders are also injured. So your defense is blunted against the third best attack in the league and your attack is blunted against the best defense.

Your team is known for being very all or nothing. You either smash them or they smash you. Except the team you're up against doesn't get smashed by anyone, literally every team in the league has tried and failed. Including you once already where they smashed you 4-1. They've only lost 3 times and never by more than one goal.

How optimistic do you feel going into that game?

Oh and hey, the team, the coach, and the entire world know the coach is getting fired at the end of the year. Yay.

I would feel bad for them but they basically came from absolutely nothing and didn't even attempt to work for their success, which isn't the supporters fault obviously but still...LOL.

Starting to worry more about if Joe Hart has dandruff than I am about us winning this game, I don't want to get too confident but honestly, we already spanked them 4-1 and they had a stronger team then, they are in a complete mess right now.

It will only be our fault if we fail to beat them (Unless we get screwed by the officials) because man for man we are better imo.

Thread dedicated to spurs on redcafe:

To be fair this was posted at the end of November:

Spurs won't get CL this season. I'd bet my piggy bank on it. I wouldn't mind them making it (although GlastonSpur is making any sort of affection for Spurs very hard), but I actually think Chelsea will recover and get 4th.

Then last week:

Joint 2nd highest scorers
Least goals conceded

They're not too bad are they?

Our top 4 hopes depend on Spurs dropping points which doesnt look very likey at the moment.

It would be like them to miss out despite their current position but I think they'll be playing Champions League football next year. Credit where it's due to Pochettino and the time he's spent getting the squad where he wants it. I'd say they might be able to go one better if Kane stays fit but I can't see this Spurs squad winning the league as it stands.

We won't be in the CL next year because of this team IMO. I can't see us catching them. Newcastle and Southampton has killed us.

The realisation is setting in...

They've only lost 3 games this season... They're a very good side.

They've had an excellent season and i hope they win the league but i remember Newcastle beating them also.

Spurs also lost to Leicester, but still they are a very good side. Not sure they have much depth but it doesn't really matter if you don't have many injury problems.

Spurs have lost 3 matches. Leicester have only lost 2.

We'll have to do very well to finish above either of these.

With that said, I can't see Spurs or Leicester doing as well in their last 10 games. I think fatigue/pressure/expectation might catch up to them in that final stretch.

We are five behind Arsenal too and will be playing them both. We can absolutely catch both teams.

We usually do well against the big teams but the bigger problem is we drop points against mid/lower level teams while the likes of Arse and Spurs have been winning these games.

I'm not too confident we will make it tbh, unless Spurs and Arsenal go through a really really bad patch or Leicester go into complete free fall.

Also Europa League is going to start soon and it is known to have a bad effect on league form and we don't particularly have a large squad either.

I think they might finish 2nd to City.

And then our favourite spurs supporting manchester forum hoarding person:

Spurs have conceded fewer than 20 goals in their opening 24 games for the first time in their top-flight history (81 seasons).

The transformation in our defence has been remarkable under Pochettino so far, and achieved without playing a defensive game. The two key changes IMO have been bringing in Alderweireld to partner his Belgian national teammate Vertonghen, and deploying Dier as a DM.

Followed by:

I don't think its really the defence as such, although I do think Alderweireld is a very good player. There's just so much energy and work rate in front of the defence. Coupled with, like you said, a player who is used to playing as a defender protecting the back four in Dier.

Personally I think there's definite room for improvement in terms of personnel in defence for spurs but you can't argue with how pochettino has them set up, as he did with southampton.

Not sure either actually make a point there....

Another thing - which you wont like but I would really like to see pochettino at one of the big boys. He's had two jobs now where he's had the personalities in the squad that will play his way, I'd love to see him take a team the has bigger egos and more expectations than spurs ( no offence ) and see if he can replicate it.

after saturday:

Second in the table, then. Are Spurs now serious title contenders?

If they can keep their key players fit then yes they have a great chance. The EL might hinder them in the latter stages as Pochettino has played a strong team in that competition so far and that might catch up with them in the business end of the season, especially if they continue with that policy as you would expect them to brush away most sides in the competition.

But if Kane was to get injured, they would be in big trouble, not only is he their only main goalscorer but the back-up is not very good. They didn't manage to sign Dembele and N'Jie doesn't look like a proven goalscorer who will bang them in if Kane gets injured.

Also if one of their CB were to get injured, they would have to play Wimmer who hasn't had much football thus far and could struggle but apart from that they do have decent strength in depth especially at full back and the attacking positions with Walker, Trippier, Rose, Davies and then Ali, Chadli, Lamela, Son, f Dembele, Eriksen and a few of the kids who are making an impact.

I guess so. I'd say that if Leicester are then Spurs are considering Spurs have a better squad than them in my opinion.

The Europa League could easily mess up their form but I'm not sure they will get past Fiorentina so it may only disrupt two Premier League fixtures. If Kane stays fit then with his goals they can certainly finish close to the top. They've only conceded 19 goals as well and for me a strong defence can lay the foundation for being a successful side.

Imagine the top two at the end of the season being Leicester and Tottenham. This season has been a barrel of laughs if I ignore Liverpools current position.

The question then becomes how do you play against it? They are superb on the break and work so hard at stopping crosses into their box allowing their centre backs to get into good positions and defend properly something which is a rarity in England

Do what we did last time we played them.

Be patient. And work really hard.

Am I the only person in the world that thinks there is something untoward going on at Leicester. Seriously. How can a bunch of average players all of a sudden be so much quicker and fitter than everyone else.....

This weekend is so big. In recent years we have had some great moments in that stadium. Super Steed in the Carling Cup, Crouch header.... One more on Sunday please boys

Mirakuru!

The Arsenal TV lot seem to fall into two categories, the Wenger supporters who still don't see us as a threat. And the Wenger outs who see us on the rise.

I find Ty to be incredibly boring and completely out of touch with whats going on at the club and he passes us off like we will never challenge. He still hasn't worked out how they have completely gone stagnant under Wenger. They have the stadium, no debt and cash in reserve. They could challenge the oil clubs for players they're already paying big wages to some really average players. They could sort themselves out very quickly by replacing Wenger. But even then with Kroenke in charge as according to them he doesn't want to spend so maybe they never will. Which is good for us. B

Claude on the other hand is entertaining and switched on and he says it as it is. Hes in the Wenger out camp because he knows there going no where fast with him and he can clearly see we are catching them up fast.

But we are a fair way behind them financially so they could leave us behind again.

This was posted AFTER Saturdays game???

Where Wimmer played his second PL game?? Oh and his second clean sheet. These fans talking about us is like me talking about thermonuclear dynamics, not a scooby.

They are not a bunch of average players they have 4 players who are clear candidates for player of the year. They are very organised work extremely hard and do the basics remarkably well. They are way clear as the the best side we have played at home this season they have been fantastic all season and though I think they eventually will full short they have torn up the economics of football theory once and for all

Fair play for what Leicester are doing this season, but to say they were the best side we've played at home is absolute crap. Leicester were total shit against us. One of the worst teams we've played at home, in both matches. It was proper smash and grab stuff against us. A 2-0 or 3-0 win for us would have been a far more accurate reflection of both games.

I know they've played some nice stuff this season and they are a massively effective team but against us they were at their worst and we should have beat them comfortably.

Wimmer is incredible. Slotted right in.

I re-watch Watford game... He was almost a perfect Vertongan. His controlled headers was something Jan lacks.... Which makes me wonder if Jan might be able to dislodge him when he is fit. So we got this under control IMO.

The fact that Utd fans haven't noticed that Vertonghen got injured and Wimmer has been playing the last 2.4 games without conceding a goal is hilarious.

I also love how Wimmer isn't afraid to take the ball forward - he's a great find and apparently a nice bloke too!

Wimmer has played over 60 games in the Bundesliga. He's not the green novice that we tend to think of him as.

Ed: Sorry, no, I just double checked - half those games were in the German 2nd tier, half in the Bundesliga. Still reasonable experience.

Yup.. Just like Jan driving forward when there is opportunity.... In fact I am at ease with his decision making. Top player at a dirt cheap price. One of the gem going into end March and my only worry is Bentelab stepping up for Dier....

The key for us is to keep Dembele and Dier for EPL matches..... That is after watching the Watford match.

He has one season in the 2. Bundesliga, one in the Bundesliga and 2 starts in the PL. I'd say he's still learning his trade, especially considering his position is one in which experience tends to be key. He has been so impressive taking all this into account.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda, if's buts and maybe's - if your argument is leaning on what if scenarios then you haven't really got an argument to be fair.

The very fact that you're saying that they're one of the worst teams we've played this season tells me you don't really appreciate how they setup, I think you're focusing on their attacking game a bit much and not giving any credit to their defence, they didn't allow us to penetrate them and kept us as bay, their defensive cohesion and shape is the best I've seen at the Lane this season and they have a strong mentality.

If they weren't the best team then who?
