Hard to judge. Willian for Cheslea is different to Willian for us. AVB would have had him playing more prominently for us than both him for Chelsea and Eriksen. As it stands though, I'm happy with Eriksen. Both would have been amazing.

It's based on what I've actually seen in the Premier League rather than the Lamela-fantasy constructed in everyone's heads.

I can see what you're saying, but I think a bigger difference is the managers' willingness to put the players on the pitch, rather than a big difference in the players' abilities

I want to see Lamela get more game time, and I think he needs to be played as far up the pitch as possible.

But from what I've seem of him, he seems very timid and weak. Clearly has quality though.

Pretty sure we were meant to be getting both and got only Eriksen.

So no bullet dodged, a good player lost if anything.

You clearly haven't watched Willian play this season, the guy has been immense.

Chadli/Townsend/Eriksen as options from the left seems good to me. Think the right side has been more of a problem

None of those players have been comfortable on that side, and none of them provide adequate defensive assistance. Eriksen has been able to overcome and contribute in the games in that role against weaker teams via sheer quality.

The only bit that grates me is that William signed for Chelsea over us because of Abramovich's doing his oligarch mate from Anzhi a favour to help him with their financial problems ( as well as taking Eto'o).
Eriksen has delivered far sooner than Willian, we paid less we and definitely got the better option.

Willian: 15 PL starts: 3 goals and 1 assist
Gylfi: 12 PL starts: 5 goals and 0 assists.
Chadli: 12 PL starts: 1 Goal and 3 assists
Eriksen: 18 PL starts: 6 goals and 6 assists

"Immense" is a strange word for a £30 million pound player that contributes at a poor rate, His goal+assist rate in the Ukrainian league was the same.

The fact that you've brought up stats which doesn't even begin to tell tell the full story of his all round contribution tell me that you haven't watched him at all.

Ask yourself this question, if a player who has similar stats every season, why has he commanded hefty transfer fees?

Whatever the story is, I still don't understand how we got Eriksen at such a low price, considering that he was hardly and unknown quantity, but rather was quite highly touted as one of the next big things. So why his price was so low is a bit mysterious to me.

William or not, Levy would always have snapped him up at that price, regardless of whether he was needed or not...any one can see that his value is likely to go up.

But like everyone at the moment I've extremely glad we've got him (for a few years...). Hopefully the team will be build around him.

Would be happy to have William too, though.

Wasn't it the last year of eriksen's contract?

This thread is on the level of sadness as the "lets laugh at liverpool/chelsea" threads.
If I had changed the thread name to "Willian or Eriksen", people wouldn't have got their knickers in a twist.

As far as I was concerned, we were going to sign Willian, that failed so we signed Eriksen instead.

I'm not denying that Willian is a fantastic player, he clearly is. I'm just saying that if I buying Eriksen instead of Willian (if that were the case) seems like a good move at the moment.

I phrased it badly- I probably should not have put "Bullet Dodged"- My fault

So while watching Eriksen play incredibly well YET AGAIN yesterday, it occurred to me that actually, he was BACK-UP to Willian (FACT).

So I thought that I'd compare the two this season for their respective clubs (I could only find stats for Europe and PL)

Eriksen: 9 Goals, 8 Assists
Willian: 3 goals, 3 Assists

So, Willian, who is in a better team that scores tons of more goals than us and is surrounded by better players has managed 6 less goals and 5 less assists.

Let's remind ourselves again. We could have signed Willian for £30 million but because he, Mourinho, Abramovich and Chelsea are massive ****s, we ended up with Eriksen for £11.5million.

WOW! Thank FUCK for that. We've signed a better player for much less money and with the potential to be lightyears ahead than Willian when he turns 25 (Willian's age)

So, thank you Chelsea, for taking Willian instead of us. We will be truly grateful when he turns into a world-class player for us in the next few years (and sell him to Madrid for £100million and buy 13 new players in Sherwood's second reign)

Can anyone truly say that they are still angry that Chelsea bought Willian and we "only" got Eriksen?

Would have been very nice to have both, and both could have played in the same team.

I have been an Eriksen fan-boy since he was seventeen and said repeatedly on here that we really should sign him. His purchase was excellent value for money, with the likelihood that he will improve greatly at the Lane and the worst case scenario that we get 3 or 4 years out of him and then a mahoosive profit. In direct comparison to Willian, I feel he offers more end-product, too.

That said, Willian has certainly impressed me since he settled in, it certainly did humiliate our club the way Cheslea stole him from under our noses, it certainly upset AVB's apple-cart, and, to date, I have seen nothing to say we were either going to sign Eriksen or Willian (or, for that matter, Willian or Lamela). With that in mind, I really can't see the point in calling Willian a dodged bullet - unless, of course, it is to make us feel better for the way he helped those Chav ****s take the pure piss out of us again :mad::mad:
