Think we have to be careful about who we look to move on at the moment. Sounds silly because we'd like to see the back of a number of players such as Parker, Hudd, BAE (and for me Defoe), but with Bale looking more and more likely, we definitely need to keep a degree of stability and a bit of Premier League 'know-how'!

And people worrying about freeing up wages - no need. If Bale goes, coupled with those who have already gone (Bentley, Gallas) and now Dempsey (who'd have been on at least 50k), all potential signings will be covered easily. It's not like the players we've been linked to are already on a 100k. People like Lamela, Chichriches, Coentrao are nowhere near that.

If Bale is going to leave I think we need to get a player in his position as part of the deal. Otherwise we're going to have a very big gap in our team come the start of the season.

Either way I'm now very worried about the first few games.
But who from RM is going to agree to come? Once you have played at Real it takes a pretty humble mind to accept a supposed step down in the name of playing regular football. Playing for Madrid breeds entitlement a horrible trait and only those towards the latter end of their careers become mature enough to accept it.

See VdV for example (dutch people tend to be more sensible anyway).

But DiMaria and the like are too young, their egos wont allow it, cast out of Real Madrid to go to a non CL team and in a swap deal to boot? No. Oh and Real Madrid will overprice their own players to drive the amount they need to stump up on bale down.

Best we can do is pre-spend on players elsewhere like Lamela.

i was not on line last night so not sure what the general discussion was about which striker the Goat might have been talking about.

But if selling Bale meant we got Lamela and this mystery striker then we have to be pretty pleased. We will have lost our star man but we will be a far stronger outfit than last season

Like many of us on here, I'm resigned to Bale leaving now. With regards to Ghostofarmo's ITK, would I be right to assume that the Roma player is Lamela?
Assumptions are your rights, questions...... Well that's another story, but not for here.

I am resigned to Bale going, and as much as I loved watching him in a Spurs shirt, instinct tells me that he is not in the Ronaldo and Messi class and £90M+ is just way too much to turn down, I am more excited at the prospect of a team lining up like the following ...
Lloris

Walker Vertonghen Kaboul Coentrao

Paulinho Sandro Dembele

Chadli/Lennon Soldado Lamela

Addition of creative midfielder & one more striker.

I know we need to consider Bale's commercial impact, positioning us as a global brand and all the other stuff talked about on here. But that looks like a youthful powerful side that will physically dominate sides, just lacking the unexpected that Bale gave us. Posters on here who made the point about how abject we looked last season without Bale are 100% right, but I felt this was a combination of not replacing VDV or Modric to unlock the door and sometimes others would stand back and wait for Bale to deliver his magic, it became a bit like the kid in the playground all always had the ball, others not needed to win the game (I am in no way dismissing Bale as anything but a truly wonderful player), players like Sigurdson actually stood up more when Bale was not in the side.

I'm not, we're still a quality team with or without him and we've made good signings.

Obviously i've no desire for him to go, but in the end if he wants out, then keeping him another season is slightly futile anyway. Maybe we're better served moving on & identifying who can enhance the team going forward.
And I said it yesterday; Ghostofarmo was adamant Modric was going in 2011, so it appears his info might interpret the player's desire which as we all know can be very different from the desire of Chief Dan.

Lets get this straight, and it's nice to see more and more of us coming around to this!

Bale has said he wants to go? Seems that way.

Levy has agreed to sell? Seems that way too.

However, this will only happen IF and I mean IF Madrid meet our valuation, whether that be £85m or £100m, then an agreement needs to be made about how this is paid, what percentage up front, over how many years, sell on fees, blah blah blah. That will be the sticking point, and the bit that Levy will be very insistent on. That will be the reason the sale falls through, not whether or not we have accepted he can go.
Every player has his price.

Edit : beaten to it by Riandor, pretty much!

Just to throw a little curly in there to ruminate on...
If Bale is going, and I am by no means convinced he is, could the silence also be because we want to conclude our incoming business first and avoid getting raped?
Personally I don't think he's going anywhere for the plethora of reasons already mentioned, multiple times, on here.

But just thought I'd add a little seasoning to the pot you've all got brewing.

Maybe I'm in denial but I refuse to accept Bale leaving. I know on most forums the popular consensus is to sell and buy some exciting new name but I couldn't get excited about Lamela, Llaljic or any other similar player if we sold Gareth.

He was born to play for Spurs and he is irreplaceable. When was the last time we had a player in our team regarded by many outside the club as the 3rd best player in the world? He needs to stay and push us on, I believe that with him we can do special things.

Sell him and all that is gone IMO. I know people often state Arsenal as an example of how to cope with losing stars but in reality the reason they haven't won anything for so long and that we have sucked then into a battle they should never have been a part of, is because they have lost their best players and their replacements haven't stepped up. Isn't Theo now they biggest earner FFS?!

I have no control over whether he stays or goes but whilst there is air in my lungs I will never accept it before it happens.

A lot of people saying Lamela but the ITK on him is very weak at best and doubtful Roma will sell.

Well it's the same with Bale and Madrid, stance softens once we promise them more money than they would be sensible to refuse. Bale money would give us that option.

What's going on?
It seems a bit slow after last night.

No news of Gareth Bale's hunger strike or anything?

IF Bale is the one pushing for this move after seeing us spend 50m on new players trying to push hard for the title then he can fuck right off! One more year bale, just give it one more year. See how we go. We could be seriously pushing this year and he won't after all avb and spurs have made him! I hope he has a mare in Madrid.

It's possible... And what really strikes me is that this would really fit in with JJ's ITK. Ie. only a select few know what's really going on... Losing a special one... All staff told to blanket no comment etc.

Could well be we've agreed with RM pending getting out targets in.

All speculation granted, but I think this is maybe what JJ was alluding to.

All this ITK is killing me.

I honestly think we should try our best to keep him for this year because I believe with him in the side we can push further than just 4th place. Then if he wants to go next year it gives us potential to bring in better calibre players.

I also doubt we'd sell Bale without knowing the targets we want to relplace him are available and available at the right price? No?

No doubt the meeting between Sabtini (sp) and Baldini saw this discussed.

Hear hear.

One more reason: I live in Sweden. People here often don't anything about Tottenham, or why one should support such a team. During the last years something has happened. I have actually seen the response shift from "Tottenham who?" to "Ah, the team with Gareth Bale". If I can suppose that the increase in club awareness is even close to similar in the rest of the world, we are gaining incredibly much by having a world class talisman!
