The upside of only signing one new right back would be to have a settled back 4 which I think is vital if we want to solidify our leaky defence.

If we signed Celik and Aarons I would imagine we would see a lot of rotation, plus I can't see where Tangnaga would get minutes as he will be 4th choice rmcentre back at best.

Difficult balancing act, especially if you want competition for places and contingency for injuries but you also want to give players enough game time.

Jose will have two different teams for uel and premier league .. He will use gazzanigga in uel and lloris in premier league ...

I just get the feeling Castagne would be the better option for me. Can cover both sides, seems stronger in defence and we have a pretty good track record with players out of Belgium. Playing next to Toby would be a real draw for him

If we do buy 2 right backs I think one definitely needs to be able to play in more than one position.

Castagne, Mazraoui, Atal for example would all add squad depth in other areas.

if we keep our current system then one of the RB’s needs to be attack minded and have an end product. The alternative is that our LB becomes our attacking outlet but we’ve only got Sessegnon who would fall into this mould and he’s seriously lacking confidence to express himself at the moment.

I think we will probably ditch that . I think Jose did the one attacking fullback one defensive to make the most our of Aurier's strengths not because he wants to play like that.

I suspect that fullbacks will be important in transition, and go up when they must but we will try to build in a different way. I suspect we are going to try to play into our attacking players quicker, and we will see a more disciplined approach.

I don’t see why we can’t sign 2 right backs this summer.

I remember at one point under Redknapp we had at least 5 right backs on our books.

Alan Hutton
Vedran Corluka
Kyle Walker
Kyle Naughton
Adam Smith

to be fair the Kyles were still U21 and largely on loan in that period. Same with the father of modern economics.
But if you want to talk about a Defensive/Offensive RB pairing I think Hutton/Charlie takes the absolute cake. Hutton was such an experience, the Scottish Cafu would fancy a shot or dribble every time he got the ball in the opposition half. What he wouldn’t fancy is running back to our half to defend... I think he had less defending skill than anyone we’ve played at RB since.
Corluka was actually a quality player and had a good touch, but he was basically a 3rd CB and ended up playing CB for Croatia in a lot of games. Think he would only ever get into the opposing box for a corner kick.

Would also be good if we actually signed a top quality RB instead of numerous average ones :) just sayin.

Atal would be top drawer i think.
Are any of the other two any good or better than SA?

Maybe nostalgia is clouding my judgement but really enjoyed Corluka at right back. Was reliably solid, intelligent on the ball for his size and linked up very well with Lennon.

Atal is essentially two footed, equally comfortable at LB/RB, LWB/RWB or even LW/RW. Would be a magic signing.
