I think it would have been offside if it had gone in, the Lino flagged late, but they are told to wait and flag late, no?
I thought he flagged because he was giving it as a goal kick (which it wasn't). He definitely wasn't offside

I think it was a good World Cup because it was enjoyable.

We exceeded expectations without really wowing anyone, good in some ways and not very good in others, but it was good just to see the fans and country get behind the team. That made it enjoyable for me.

Just relax and have a bit of fun, that’s what most nations there do.

Who can we select that would match the midfield of Croatia?

Exactly, it annoyed me when some fans, not on here, were saying we were already in the final. Croatia have an excellent midfield with 2 class CM's and perisic. There RB was very good as well.

I knew they would be far to experienced for alli and lingaard. Modric is a class act. He does everything you want a CM to do.

How does it "boggle the mind" exactly? He was keeping the defence honest and pushing them back at every opportunity. We were bossing the game until he came off.

Honestly it was harry's open goal miss that would have put us 2-0 up that made me think "I really hope we don't regret this".

because when you have Kane you build your offense around him.

we were bossing the game till he came off? he came off in the 90th minute and we didnt boss anything in the second half. he had nothing to do with our goal. he runs fast, thats it. you dont build your offense around a player who hasnt scored for your side in 3 years.

and you think Kane had an open goal?

The linesman gave offside after the passage of play was over with, but he was onside it would have been overturned if England scored.

Saw this on Facebook:

Quote from The Times this morn....

And if you're still feeling down then what better to cheer you up than this statistical treat.

Trippier became the first No 12 to score at this World Cup and the first No 12 to score for England at any World Cup. It was also the 12th goal scored by England at the tournament on what was Trippier's 12th cap. And, it also took the number of goals scored by Tottenham Hotspur players at this World Cup to . . . yes, you guessed it . . . 12.
12 you say.

We go 1-0, we should have added to our advantage, opposition come back to make it 2-1.

Seems like the same pattern to me.
And we were playing in all white and Juventus were wearing their away jerseys! It's almost a carbon copy of each other!

We had about 80% of the game against Juventus and they scored in a good 5 minute spell. The better team went ahead and lost. Croatia had twice as many shots and corners, more possession, territory and control of the game. The better team went behind and won.

It was merely an observation mate between two fans in a pub, didn't know we were playing this game of who can be the most pedantic but okay :D

How am I being pedantic? I think you're observation was wrong and I'm stating why I feel that way. Isn't that the point of the a discussion thread? If someone claimed Trippier was shit this tournament and I disagreed would that be being pedantic too?

Read this post my friend, it was a simple take away from the match, nothing to do with stats

We go 1-0, we should have added to our advantage, opposition come back to make it 2-1.

Seems like the same pattern to me.

It's simply how I saw the game panning out, nothing to do with how many shots we'd taken, how much possession we had blah blah

You're not wrong by the way, you are correct it was a totally different performance by both teams in both matches, it was just the outcome was the same which is what I was trying to say.

He’s missed and mucked up probably less than Kane, who if it wasn’t for set pieces and pens, wouldn’t have scored either. Kane was pretty poor in a few of those WC games.

Kane couldn’t even keep himself onside last night (surprise, surprise). And I know it wouldn’t have counted (because he’d stupidly got himself offside) but why didn’t he just square that ball to Sterling to tap into an empty net and then from 6 inches out still missed and whacked it against a post, again instead of passing.

This was the arch irony of people moaning about the time Sterling tried to score instead of cutting it back (Columbia?? Maybe). Kane does this all the time. Takes on stupid chances when he has team mates in better places.

The last time I looked (around March time I think) Sterling had a better goals to shots ratio than Kane. 18 goals from a AM was pretty damn good, and he also had 11 assists (third best in the league) to Kane's 2, which means for goals and assists he was only 3 behind Kane's total for G/A. Not bad for a non striker.

England were nowhere near as good as Spurs in that Juve game. Croatia were much better than Juve.

If my aunt etc...

The point is that had he not been fouled, he may well have scored other than from the spot and if England's best chances are created from set pieces then so be it. Kane was magnificent in holding the ball up, bringing other players into play and drawing fouls. He missed chances, so do most players but he doesn't let this bother him or it affect his confidence seemingly-unlike other players. Kane, rightly or wrongly would never square in that position and on many other occasions, would score as we have seen countless times.

I think Sterling has received a lot of undue criticism but I wouldn't have had faith in him scoring even a tap in after some of his misses. I would say that he may well have a better goals to shot ratio because at City he scored a lot of easy chances created by De Bruyne et al; whereas Kane rightly or wrongly shoots from more difficult positions.

The anti-Kane tone of your post is quite bizarre.
