Yeah, absolutely. Uruguay are the other team to watch in my opinion.

And you're spot on about the names over teams thing - it's absolutely ridiculous. I saw a Spurs-related article today saying that if Spurs want to win the title next season, Son has to start every game! They just blithely ignore the fact that football is team game. Like the Portugal manager said recently, 'if I only played Ronaldo, we'd definitely lose'. If only so-called sports 'journalists' would keep that in mind...

Edit: not to mention the latest wankfest over M'bappe. It's all bloody hype, hype, hype, hype, hype.
It’s about Marketing...
let’s not pretend though that England going far and a goal or two more from Kane doesn’t benefit us too mind! As cynical as I am about the big names thing, Kane having a blinder means more kids want to be like him and thus end up supporting Spurs.

I mean that’s how I became one of the fold, 1990, GL and PG.

Do it Harry! ;-)

Danmark are gonna spank em :cautious:

That will be nice to see later this evening, have 6 Carlsbergs in the fridge -unfortunately I have just been told I am going to the beach this afternoon so I am gonna miss Spain/Russia

I can't grumble too much, it is damn hot and only about 2 miles away.
Hopefully totty watching will help but is is usually deserted.

There's 3 within 2 miles, the middle one is about 4 miles long and if I see 10 people that will be a crowd.

I'm thinking about bring my iPad to watch the game but the sand is literally a pain in the arse.

I never had the choice. My older brother is a Spurs fan and so I had to be too.

My brothers godfather was. When we moved to England in 1980 he took us to the Spurs shop (he had stopped going to games when the hooligans came along). No going back after that.

As an amusing aside, to prove that the self-styled Masters of the Universe with their cutting edge algorithms actually know SweetFA, here are some pre-tournament computer-driven predictions from the banker elites:

--------------------------------------------------------------

Insight of the week

These pre-tournament predictions from major financial institutions:

a) Commerzbank – showcasing their financial analysis and data modelling tools last month, running “10,000 stochastic simulations” to reveal Germany as clear 2018 World Cup winners.

b) Goldman Sachs – using “data mining, machine learning and econometrics” in 1,000,000 simulations to tip Germany as finalists and Saudi Arabia as the surprise package.

c) Danske Bank – analysing “thousands of data simulations while factoring in economic variables”, also putting Germany in the final.

And d) UBS – showing off the “econometric tools used by the UBS wealth-management arm to pick stocks for clients” by running a “calibrated statistical model” featuring “a Monte Carlo simulation to draw in random variables, instead of just mapping out all the different constellations”. UBS said “applying the tools and insights from our investment process and relying on a quantitative framework” produced “a model with a high degree of accuracy”. Their conclusion, reached via “10,000 virtual tournaments”: Germany will win the final, “after an easy start”.

The Spanish should be licking their lips at their route to the final. Pretty much a certainty they will get there. They'll beat Russia easily today and then they'll win by a short scoreline against Croatia (who are now in the "so underrated they're overrated" category judging by this thread), and then beat whatever team comes out of the other bracket.

They're a top team with top players, and after their failure in the previous World Cup they'll feel they need to set the record straight, similar to Brazil.

They're all overrated mate. Nothing like as good as the English team.

Don't think it's an outrageous decision to drop Iniesta. Played all the games so far whilst in his mid 30's and I've thought he's looked a little slow and that you can see why he has called time on his career at top level football.

Will be interesting to see if Spain now turn up in the knockout matches, when it gets serious. So far the likes of Busquets, Silva, the fullbacks, and more, have all not been at their best.
