Sign of a world class defender, he came on and you barely knew he was playing.

Its effortless for him and he/King are the perfect match alongside Dawson (or anyone who makes up for a lack of postioning by their willingness to throw themselves in front of anything!)

i thought he would maybe return in a meaningless carling cup game or in for 3 minutes at the end of 4-0 victory against West Ham at home but no,

just throw him on against Ac Milan, Champions League, San Siro.

Brilliant.

I'd disagree with that. I wouldn't start a game with Woodgate and Dawson next to each other unless I'd have to. Not enough pace between them, but both great in the air. They are very similar players these days (Dawson used to throw himself in but is usually almost as good at reading the game as Woody now)

With the jubilation can one be realistic tonight? He barely had a touch and his return doesn't erase his injury record.

That said, I'd love to see him come back in the league and help us out in some key matches.

For spurs he has had one very bad injury, before that he was near ever present.

Great to see him back, but for me he will find it tough getting in front of Dawson, Gallas and Kaboul. Maybe 4th choice ahead of Bassong, but even that is harsh on Seb. Potentially our best CB, but giving him game time to reach that level will be tricky. No easy games from here on in.

Yep, brilliant stuff.

For a brief second when Crouchy nodded tamely at the keeper I saw Woody all alone at the back stick and thought Crouch was going to set him up for a magical goal.

It should also be noted that he came on and actually split up an already functioning centre-back pairing. That could have gone very wrong but all three guys deserve credit that it didn't. Especially Gallas who notoriously hates playing outside of CB.

Brave move.

Moving him out of the centre is why he left Chelsea.

very happy for him.

i dont think we should rush him in too quickly though. it would be a shame for him to suffer another injury, he hasnt played competitively in over a year.

But surely he'll accept that he might have to play right back when Kaboul, Corluka and Hutton are all out injured?

He's been a great signing for us, it would be such a shame if his ego got in the way like that.

I agree.

And I'm sure Jose Mourinho did as well.

Great to see him back again, i think we all doubted it would happen. Things seem to be going well for him, no set backs as yet so fingers crossed. Had he stayed injury free he'd be the best centre back in the World now (same could be said for Ledley).....
