Does anyone look at our squad and look at certain players in positions and understand why we're so low in the league?

With the way our bigger players are playing then looking through the mediocrity it doesn't surprise me.

It will be tough tonight and I know we will concede. Just depends if we score more than them. Reminds me of the Ardiles days.

I won't be watching it tonight as I'm out - but could be a good thing as I would be a lot more nervous watching the game.

I look through our squad and understand why we are notin the top 4 but the squad definately does not reflect our current position in any way shape or form.

I bet every fan in the country look through their squad list and thinks we could be higher in the league if we had better players than X, Y and Z. Infact i bet all prem managers look through their squad and wish they had better players in some positions.

I just think we have so much mediocrity. I think our defence is so fragile as the midfield cover is shit, our 2 CB’s at the mo (Dawson Kaboul) seem very mistake prone to me and I get worried when ANY player is running at them. Teams just seem to score against us quite easily???

I still put that down to poor defensive coaching, the quality is their, these players did not just become rubbish over the past year. I've been quite open that our defensive mess is my biggest gripe with Jol and i dont beleive it is through lack of quality in that area.

Best you do go out Lib!!

For me, it's about team confidence - what you get by winning and taking on a mantle of thinking you are going to win.

Right now, we are just going to be so grateful for a win, any win.

If we go in to December floating about down the nether regions, don't be surprised if a we flirt with those involved with relegation.

You are right, our squad is good but top 4 it isn't. However we should not be at the bottom end of the table, I guess that is way so many people have been negative so far this season.

This is genuinely beginning to worry me, something needs to change very quickly because im not sure my heart can handle the pressure!

3 points tonight would be absolutely massive for us particularly as Sundays game is going to be very difficult imo.

I just look at the other teams and don’t see any of them as definite points (win or draw). I know I’m being negative but I think we’ve put ourselves in the shit big time this season. The whole Bent fiasco is really starting to fuck me off (don’t get me wrong, I like the player) and so is King being injured. We should have got a world class centre half in to sort us out or at least a PROPER DM who can break up play.

Explain to me what the "Bent Fiasco" is please.

Agree, there has been a lot of self inflicted damage.

The lack of a midfield leader has been highlighted for a longtime and the injury problems of King are also not a surprise.

So who decided that the priority should be to spend 16 million £ on what effectively is a bench warmer?

Even the most anti Jol posters haven't thrown the blame for that one at Jol.

So where do we go from here, Jol or no Jol, we need a top class goalie (even an older one until Robbo get his head sorted), we need a replacemenrt for King (unless by some miracle he recovers his full fitness, we need a leader a captain a general in midfield, we need a lot of things....

Makes you wonder how 4th place could be considered a must achieve when we have so many gaps to fill.

so who said Bent was a priority?

Well I think the huge amounts of cash spent on him go some way toward qualifying it as a priority. His price tag was deliberately inflated by Charlton and we were willing to pay. That seems to state that we deemed it a priority to buy him, wouldn't you say?

And the Bent fiasco is the fact that we spent millions of pounds on a player and yet he seems to be used primarily as a bench-warmer.

The purchase of Bent in my opinion was a mistake. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's a bad player by any stretch of the imagination, but a lesser-known player, one who was willing to play third or fourth fiddle would have been a wiser move and would have cost the club less too. Nugent was available and although I don't think he's better than Bent (yet), his bench status would have been far more justifiable considering the difference in pricetag.

Charlton stitched us right up over Bent, and I have no doubt they're laughing all the way to the bank.

I still dont beleive we need a dedicated DM, i think a team can work quite successfully with 2 box to box midfielders, players who will be willing to get up and down all game.

I think a big problem with our defence is the lack of pace in the centre. When King was fit we played with a high line and closed down the area between the midfield and defence safe in the knowledge that we could pour forward and he always had the pace to get back. Without him we regularly push everyone including the fullbacks up but leave Daws and Kaboul deep with acres of space in front of and to either side of them - this is further compounded by the lack of anyone in the midfield disciplined or experienced enough to sit in that gap and cover.

I think there may be the theory that Bent is one for the future, given the likelihood of Mr. Berbatov's defection if Spurs are sin Champions Leagueo come May 2008.

Don't forget he's had his niggles. At some stage Berba will groin his strain :)wink:) and DBII will be rolled in and show us all why the money was splurgedo.

I don't agree Chubb (Lampard & Gerrard for e.g). You need 2 players who both know their specific jobs.

Zokora, Tainio, Dawson, Kaboul, Defoe, Lennon, Jenas, Malbranque etc etc.... how good are these players at the moment or from what you’ve seen this season....?

I think our management has been VERY poor this season - in fact it's been a disgrace and it's been worsened by our board.
