I do like Wan-Bissaka and think he'd do well here but the only major difference between him and KWP is that one is getting regular time and the other isn't.

He's another example of a player that would go to Lyon or something and then immediately be too expensive. South America is also easier to buy from in January than others.
A huge number of media outlets reported earlier this week that Real Madrid had agreed a deal for him for around £20m.

Hopefully it's just clickbait, because IMO a player of this profile is exactly what we should be targeting to replace Dembele. Winks has shown enough that we should be looking for a young, relatively inexpensive talent to compete with him rather than a more established signing who would require a massive fee. That would give us more leeway to address the other needs in the squad.

Would work for me! Certainly not the sort of statement signings we hoped for but this is still going to be our way of doing business I would imagine. But hopefully enough of these guys will be able to grow up while Kane and Eriksen are here that we can take another shot at the league.

His agent said the Real link is fake, but that he has had contact from Inter. I'd be happy to pay £25-£30m for him and just be happy we got a seriously talented CM that can both play with and spell Winks.

Jeremy Lascelles new 6 year deal at Newcastle. Figured I'd throw this in as I know some wanted him as a Toby replacement.
I don't think we need a Toby replacement, Sanchez and Foyth both prefer the right, I think when Toby goes we should look for a Jan replacement. Ie, a young left footed CD.

Works for me! I wanted Lenglet this summer when hearing about De Ligts price tag.

Vorm is certainly surplus to requirements now, Gazza has really stepped up.

Hopefully we can move on at least a couple in January, not sure we should sell Llorente though until the summer.

Yeah think it was a big mistake in the club's recruit policy when we went away from our bread and butter, of signing young promising players. They may not give us the instant jolt we need, but still better then standing still and watching our squad deacay.

DTX i'm with you on a lot of the frustrations and solutions you've put forward but "statement signings" is not one of them. This is not our MO and probably will never be unless DL hands over the reigns and I'm all for it ('it' being buying up and comers instead of 'names'). The beauty of the Poch era has been 'team' before anything else. If you bring a statement signing is then you have implicitly placed that person before the team. Additionally, if we nab someone perceived to be beyond our profile then how long will that person stay when 'big' clubs come a callin?

I've always called for signing technically competent footballers with decent athleticism. We have very few in our squad and would improve massively if we could bolster the ranks with them. The amount of moves that break down because our players cannot execute what many would consider a simple pass is astounding. This is the beauty of Harry Winks who is not great at anything but competent (or more) in everything. These players don't cost a lot of money but imagine having one at each position in our XI.

Plus, our statement signing was NO signing. Made a hell of a statement didn't it?

I'd be happy to pay £25-£30m for him and just be happy we got a seriously talented CM that can both play with and spell Winks.
I fairly certain Daniel would let you have at it as well.

@heelspurs statement signing may have been the wrong way to put it. Davinson Sanchez was the dream signing. One of the highest potential players in the world for a damn good fee. A player like Ndombele fit that mold, Palacios the same. De Ligt, Martial were 2 we were after this summer. It's those players on the cusp of greatness, not the ones that already are great.

Linked in the Mirror to Doucoure today.

I don’t think it it really matters who we are linked with at this stage, it’s just that we are being linked with players at all. Too often in the last few years there’s been quiet in the media around us at winter transfer window time. At least with these stories it may mean we are actually out there looking at players if agents are talking to the media.

Lewis cook is pointless imo. He’s certainly no better than winks. So effectively you are saying winks is our No 1 and cook back up. Just don’t think that’s strong enough. In reality we need someone better or at least equal to winks.

He’s becoming a really well rounded midfielder and offers more in defence than Winks. Surely worth following his progress as the season goes on?

Cook is definitely worth watching, very progressive with the ball and on the cusp of the England set up...if he can kick on this summer he could be a great buy

The fact he would count as an homegrown player would also be a positive in signing him.

Me: I think between Dier and Wanyama we have two capable DMs so links to Barrios and Docoure make no sense and both probably a downgrade anyways.

Universe: *Takes baseball bat to Wanyama's legs* How about now?

Me: God damnit...

Wanyama injured again. Knee. Not looking good for him, is it.

New DM needed in January.

I'm chucking us in this thread, but I was very open to Barrios as a pure dm, he was getting rave reviews in the South American tournament which is basically their cleague, motm as his team reached the final.
