If Chelsea have offered a 2 year extension, but he wants 3, then I very much doubt he'll get offered that by us at aged 31

Depends on two things I’d say. What salary he’d be willing to take for the sake of a third year, and what influence Mourinho has on Levy. He’s about to turn 32, but if he’d take, say, £120k, then over three years we’d basically spend the fee we received for Eriksen for a player who, while not like for like, very much adds the type of creativity we lost when Eriksen downed tools. Add in ancillary benefits like the winning mentality and the amount he could teach the likes of Dele, Bergwijn, Clarke, Parrott and even more experienced players like Son, Lucas and Kane about maximising play in the final third, and you have a lot of upside at relatively low risk.

I personally think that if we could sign this guy, who also happens to be extremely fit by any ages standards, and move on Lamela who’s fitness issues just limit his impact across a season, we’d have upgraded an already good set of options in attack. Someone like Fraser perhaps makes more sense due to age, salary and potential acceptance of a lesser role, but Willian would add not flair, because we have a lot of that, but the ability to use flair intelligently, some which which I don’t think Dele, Son or Lucas excel in.

I'd personally rather skip on Willian and figure out a way to bring in a backup striker. Lucas, Bergwijn, Son, Dele & Sessegnon can all fill in on the spots either side of Kane. We need someone who can hold the ball up rather than another winger IMO.

I doubt we will offer that either however we might offer a 2 year contract with an option to extend by a year based on performance. Also with a sign on fee I think he will be content.

For me it's a no brainer. He is an intelligent player which is something we lack in the final third.

I have 3 Chelsea supporting sons who can't stand him. They reckon he gives the ball away a lot and creates very little.

Personally I think he had his chance to join us and blew us off for Chelsea. Now at the fag end of his career and they won't give him what he wants, suddenly we're an attractive proposition to him? No thank you.

You do not sign a player who stiffs you pretty much while holding the pen to paper. And to THAT club

I'd see him and the other available free agents (Callejon, Pedro) as direct replacements for Lamela whilst selling the latter and generating some cash for other areas.

if you have three of your own who support that lot then I’m not sure you’re an attractive proposition!

In this era we can avoid being bitter, Gallas, Viera, Giroud,Willian all good. Hold our noses.

there’s only one geezer who can never come (back)

There's always doubt in the truth of rumours such as this; often it's an easily invented media story to link a player to a former manager's new club. In my opinion we already have players of similar abilities to Willian at the club. For example, from the little I have seen of Gedson he appears to be a technically-gifted attacking midfielder, comfortable to take on defenders, break quickly and play in tight spaces near the opposition box. Similar in style to Willian - difference is Gedson is 21 with all the potential, whereas Willian is 31 on the downward curve and also a mercenary **** who has screwed us over before.

Feels like the kind of signing Arry would have loved. Over the hill winger on ridiculous wages and a massive **** to boot.

Gedson has potential
Willian is a proven match winner

Big difference.

Tanganga, Gedson, Bergwijn and Sessegnon all have the potential to be excellent players but for now with may be the exception of Bergwijn they’re nowhere near the finished article.

We need players who will come in and be expected to do a job eg the likes of Meunier, Willian, Giroud.

The main benefit of buying Willian would be to stop him playing out of his skin against us. He's a luxury player - whilst he may have won a few games for Chelsea, for many more games he's ineffective. I think we have enough in his position that makes him surplus to requirements, compared to Meunier and Giroud who I can definitely see where they can instantly contribute to the team.

Big wages, old and inconsistent in an area of the pitch where we already have plenty of competition. Also a massive bellend.

Why would we want this guy?

At least players like Gallas and (potentially) Giroud were in positions we were desperate to fill.

I'm not an advocate for this but I will take anyone that improves our squad so that we don't end up in the same situation as we did before the lockdown.

The only one "reliable" source linking us with Wiliian is Matt Law.
But, he also said that Levy doesn't want Meunier becuase he's old and doesn't have a resale value, so I would say story from the same source that we want back-up winger who is 32 and wants 3 year contract probably on +100k p/w is also bullshit.

Every proven match winner the world has ever seen has gone past their sell by date sooner or later.
