Mourinho has a style of play he wants to implement with us. Low block, quick attacks using direct / long balls, press on immediate transition and then back to a low block. His philosophy has always been that the transitions should occur in opponents half and not yours, as it is mainly transitions that lead to goals. Plus it is easier to tactically foul in the opponents half as you do not concede dangerous set pieces or collect many bookings. Jose needs a physical CF to lead the line to be able to play in that manner. In the past he has used Drogba, Ibrahimovic, Lukaku, Milito, Costa etc. to do this. And Kane can do that (and also create and score!). Jose then wants athletic, goal scoring WFs / AMs who can play tactically and know when to press and when to drop, and will be diligent in their tracking of opponents. In Son, Moura, Dele and Lamela we have tactically intelligent, hard working players. What we don’t have right now is the CF to lead the line in Kane’s absence.

that’s a really good post, but...tactical intelligence is not something I’d level at all those.

Maybe I’m referring more to their decision making, but I frequently wonder what on earth is going through Son and Lucas’s mind with some of the their attacking choices

By tactical intelligence I really mean team shape, press for 3 seconds and then drop off, tactical fouling, general diligence e.g. tracking oppo FBs etc. plus ability to follow instructions e.g. man mark their DCM etc.

I agree that their choices when in possession in the final third can be infuriating, but I put that down to us not having an effective offenisve system at present.

Great post! Sport on apart from the part where Moura is grouped in and described as a tactically intelligent player. In my opinion he plays to much with his head down to read the game. Poch also hardly played him for the first 6 months because he was struggling to adapt to his tactics.

Not sure if posted but someone asked Gards on the twitter machine if ‘we are in for W, Jose?’ He replied , ‘not happening’.

Not sure where else to post this, but Gards quoted a story saying we were interested in Weghorst (Wolfsburg), Werner, Gotze and Paco Alcacer, said there's truth in Alcacer

Out of Sociedad's squad for tomorrow.

Reading Spanish papers yesterday, they were implying that WJ demanded he be dropped for the previous game and that there was “no way back” for him with the club and the fans whether or not his transfer goes through.

There is no way on this planet we sign Werner this window or any other. We might be interested in him in the same way I’m intrigued about shitting in zero gravity, but it’s never going to happen

Yeah the opportunity to sign him was before he moved to RB.

Although I am a bit intrigued to see where he'll end up. Bayern doesn't want him and theres not another fit for him in the Bundesliga, Madrid just spunked big on striker this summer and want Mbappe. Maybe Chelsea? United? Madrid as a RW?

Unfortunately this is the way to get deals done if the club doesn't want to sell. We can probably double his wages, so he'll put up a fit to force the clubs hand. If any of this is true anyways.
We’ve had it done to us on some level to us many a time, as you say unfortunate but it’s the way it is...and always been to be fair.

Great way of getting the price down to more in the region of what we want to pay.

They aren't going too want to keep in on there books past the end of the transfer window if this is the case

With all due respect to Gards, JJ said the player is one of our options so it's kinda up to you which ITK you believe and it may just be more about where each gets their info from.

JJ said that about Piatek.

I still think Piatek is a better option, more mobile/aggressive movement, but I’m starting to come round to the idea of Jose as Plan B, someone as has been said, in the Drogba/Millito/Lukaku mould that Mourinho likes. I think Piatek is perhaps not as physical he is not lightweight or short, but could perform a similar focal role with his workrate.
