You flip flop your points to fit.
There are no Kane level forwards available in January.

apart from Cavani

who will want huge wages

because he’s Kane level

but we won’t pay that.

There are Kane level players available but we needn’t worry about signing them because we won’t pay the wages.

Bit different with Cavani, because he'll want Kane wages, then Kane will come back and we'll need to fit him in... then he'll be knocking on for 34, and we'll be stuck with him if he actually turns into a Shevchenko or Falcao type import. Then someone else might take him, but we'd have to subsidise etc. Big risks.

That's based on Cavani wanting to come, which I most certainly doubt. He seems to want Atleti or no one

He’s not available to us. He wants A.Madrid and we clearly don’t see him as a target. So who else?

Surely we need to enquire on players to see if they are available?

If we're talking Serie A: Immobile, Dzeko, Berardi, Pedro, Milik, Belotti?

Bundesliga: Hennings, Weghorst, Poulson, Kramaric, Plea?

La Liga: Aspas, Iglesias, Moreno, Gameiro, Williams?

Hell, I'd be happy if we bought Artem Dzuyba from Zenit.

There are plenty of players out there. They might not be the price we want - some of them may well be astronomical - but bottom line, we need a bloody striker.

I think this dude look's pretty good. Nice awareness, great with his head, and love's a back heel. I reckon for 20 mil he'd be decent business.

When you say 'Kane level', you're sure talking a consistent 20+ goals per season, nailed on goalscorer right?

If so, I can't necessarily think of that many that are available full stop, never mind now. And based on Chelsea and Man Utd also looking at such players, and are instead linked to Slimani/Ighalo types, I don't think it supports the argument.

That being said, there must be more as to why Werner isn't getting more sniffs, or why Haaland wasn't sought after universally.

And to put it into context we've only had 4 players hit 20+ league goals in the Premier League era.

Kane (4 seasons), Bale (1 season), Klinsmann (1 season), and Sheringham (2 seasons).

Berbatov, Keane, Adebayor, Van Der Vaart, Crouch, and Defoe never managed it.

What we need is a number 9 with the qualities to make our attack function.

Man United dominated the early 90s with Mark Hughes, scoring 15, 12, and 8 league goals.

But his team and hold up play were superb, he occupied CBs and allowed their midfield to score for fun.

This guy looks more of a Mourinho striker than Piatek to me. Jose likes a battering ram up front who frightens CBs whereas Piatek looks more in the Ian Rush style (i.e. bagging goals but not offering a whole lot else). IMO, with Lo Celso, Ndombele, Gedson we have a much higher possibility of goals from midfield than previosly and don't need to rely almost exclusively on goals from our forwards. A player like JW might fit in quite nicely setting up those sort of opportunities and would also offer the option of Kane playing off his shoulder.

This

People think we need a goalscorer we don't, we need someone who can bring others in to play, a firminho type.

With son, Lucas and Alli we have little creativity and no hold up play, we need someone to bring others into the game.

heresy ..I know but why dont we take Auba from up the road

Have you seen how much he gets paid? This was referenced in the Athletic last week...

The contract information obtained by the German magazine Der Spiegel, then published in the Football Leaks book, offers the most mind-boggling accounts about the riches on offer to the category-A players.
The details, for example, of Arsenal paying Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang £18.2 million on top of his £198,000-a-week salary when he signed from Borussia Dortmund, including a £15.15 million loyalty bonus and £50,000 every time he started a league match. Or, most remarkably, the “Champions League bonus” of £2.26 million, which the striker purportedly received even though Arsenal had failed to qualify.

Mourinho has a style of play he wants to implement with us. Low block, quick attacks using direct / long balls, press on immediate transition and then back to a low block. His philosophy has always been that the transitions should occur in opponents half and not yours, as it is mainly transitions that lead to goals. Plus it is easier to tactically foul in the opponents half as you do not concede dangerous set pieces or collect many bookings. Jose needs a physical CF to lead the line to be able to play in that manner. In the past he has used Drogba, Ibrahimovic, Lukaku, Milito, Costa etc. to do this. And Kane can do that (and also create and score!). Jose then wants athletic, goal scoring WFs / AMs who can play tactically and know when to press and when to drop, and will be diligent in their tracking of opponents. In Son, Moura, Dele and Lamela we have tactically intelligent, hard working players. What we don’t have right now is the CF to lead the line in Kane’s absence.

I’m surprised no one has made a move for Inaki Williams, he doesn’t get a load of goals but Bilbao aren’t exactly an attacking side. He has however blistering pace and is a real handful... still only circa 25.

Scrap that, he’s signed a 9 year contract with £125m buyout clause lol

The point is, you don't ask you don't get.

And then they say okay and Levy offers them 10% of the asking price.

I agree with what you’re saying :), was saying Williams would be ideal but Bilbao are a nightmare to deal with and given his contract and buyout one would expect his a complete no go. There are others that you mentioned that should be available.
