According to the guy who seems to be a Tottenham correspondent on Sky transfer centre (can't think of his name), despite all the press reports, we're not going after Zaha.

I'd imagine the Sissoko injury put paid to any chance of this happening.

The Zahavi link just made this interesting. Zaha is desperate to leave so it'll be all over the media like last summer, he'll probably stay unless someone like Everton pay the £80m they want.

If we can get him, I’d take him even though there are other more pressing areas.

He‘d be a massive upgrade at right wing over Moura, which long-term is a position we need to fix.

I posted an article in the Athletic thread about Everton and transfers, which easily could be attributed to us. In it is the following paragraph and I can’t help but think it’s totally correct and should be applied to every signing you make. So where does Zaha fit into it? I think he’d join and coast, I don’t think it’s got the jump to the next level in him, Ziyech is already at that next level for me and if there was a choice between the two he’s who I would go for. But I think zaha is more Mourinho’s kind of player. Anyway, here’s the paragraph and it’s quoting one of our beloved :cautious: ex managers:

“During his time in charge at Arsenal, George Graham used to say that the key to building a team was to buy players who were on the way up — or, alternatively, players who were desperate to prove a point — but to avoid those who might see your club as a soft landing, a comfort zone. “Never buy a player who’s taking a step down to join you,” Graham said. “He will act as if he’s doing you a favour.”
Not sure how this applies to Zaha, he'd be coming from Crystal Palace, not Real Madrid.

Graham also, obviously, made the comment before we got VDV...

I like Zaha and he is an upgrade on our attack. We struggle to break teams down and people are scared to death of him due to his close control and wizardry at times HOWEVER... There are more pressing needs in our squad and would rather revisit this in the summer if we still see him as an improvement. I also imagine there will be cheaper more attainable options elsewhere especially if we got Campos in.

It's a question of priorities though. Competition for Son/Moura is about as far down the list as you can get.

Its not just competition for Moura/Son....big clubs have options, there is almost never a long period in a season when all 3 are either not injured, suspended, out of form or even away with their countries, Jose is a big coach, he will want options.
What this creates is a squad that doesn't go stale like ours has.and rely on the same players, who lets be honest , aren't really doing the business lately.
We may argue we need other positions sorted first, maybe, but if you have striking options it will help you to play on the front foot, which is the best form of defence, and what us as fans want...

Reports in Germany say Bayern is a no-go for him, they tried to get him on loan until the end of the season! Zahavi will have his work cut out on this one unless Chelsea or Everton fancy overpaying.

I'm pretty sure we used him as a facilitator on the Lo Celso deal too. Would be a massive upgrade on Moura IMO and the kind of player Jose would love. Pacey, tricky, a great outball.

However unless we have £300m to spend it really isn't a priority right now. Better off getting a CM, CB and RB for the money Palace would ask for. They won't sell him cheap and rightly so.
Would rather just get Zaha if the CM, CB and RB we buy come to a total of 80m ?

I would love Zaha, think he would terrify opponents and give us the trickery that none of our current options do. Definitely bigger priorities elsewhere in the team but if there was a deal to be done that wasn’t to the detriment of strengthening other areas, I think he’d be a great signing

It’s kinda kooky his agent practically has same surname as Zaha too lol - just with ad added ‘vi’.

It’s like it was destiny for Zahavi to be his agent! ??

"The club also has no plans to move for Wilfried Zaha, who is valued at £80million by Crystal Palace, despite reports his new agent Pini Zahavi, who brokered the deals to bring Mourinho and Ndombele to Spurs, wants to move the winger to north London."

From the pretty depressing Dan KP article just published. We won't panic buy, targets are deemed too expensive and priority is selling Wanyama and Eriksen, not the gaping hole we had in CM before the injury to Sissoko. Joke of a club.

There's at least five or six other positions I'd like to see that money spent on before we looked at him or anyone else to play in attacking midfield, we're already well stocked there.

If this is true, Levy and co. obviously don't care as much about Top 4 as has been previously said. With a fully fit squad it was unlikely but possible. With the current injuries and no investment, no chance and will probably struggle to get a Europa spot.

Old meme I saw on twitter, but I think it covers the whole situation.

Maybe they see a season free of European football as a chance to solely focus on the domestic side of it and try to actually win the league.

Optimistic I know but we've seen the likes of Leicester do it.

I'd sign him, because need to start planning for when Kane leaves. But, knowing Levy, that won't happen until three years after he's left.

We're fucked. Kojak took his foot off the pedal when he realised we were 'ahead of schedule' on stadium/performance in the league.
