Reading the palace forum re this.... just makes you want to sign him even more. They think he should be aiming higher than spurs and that we would not be able to tempt him away.

They could be right, although I hope and believe they aren’t.
The John Bostock transfer still rankles with a lot of them. They had a thread on Bostock on cpfc.org that was still going strong after about 5 years.

Most of the ones I've seen can't fathom the possibility that he'd want to leave. Probably because they don't want to face that reality.

I hate the Stripey Nigels from my days at a South London comprehensive. I'd be quite pleased if we took their best player and they subsequently got themselves relegated.

The players they're signing does make me wonder if something has been agreed but not announced, although their need to strengthen was pretty apparent anyway after last season.

Mate, I get the same from Villa fans about Grealish. These fans will be hurting. Their best players are needing to make the next step up. Of course I am a touched bias with Spurs, but really, think about it. THE ideal manager for them, THE ideal stage, playing alongside some of THE best players in the country AND involved in ALL top tier competitions. Not to mention the world class training facilities and what will turn out to be the most advanced stadium in the land. They know this, we know this. They just don't want to admit it.

Alll that maybe true but at some point we have to offer up enough £€$¥ to get ‘smaller’ clubs’ best players wearing a Spurs shirt.

I still believe if you have something with a value, the only reason you’d sell it if you get more money than what it’s worth, otherwise why sell?

As you say we are strong on so many fronts but player up is not one of them.

Why sell? Because you yourself are also desperate for progress. These clubs, believe it or not, are not happy just being in a relegation dog fight all the time and they don't want an unhappy player on their hands.

Couple this with - some clubs don't actually have that much money. A boost in the coffers allows them to do all sorts in the market.

I hope this thread is closed within the next five days & Zaha has signed for us.

Very good point, we are naive if we think the way to buy a club's absolute star player is to try and screw them down in negotiations.

We would expect it for one of ours.

I think it'd be all over the media if we'd had a bid accepted. And if we haven't had a bid accepted by now or at least entered into a dialogue with Palace, I just can't see this happening.

Martial seems to have gone from the long shot to the most likely forward signing, purely because we have something United want too.

It does make you wonder why the powers that be don't just make the Transfer Window 12 hours long

Like the trading floor of a stock exchange

Levy would be like an auctioneer...

"A....one-bid,one-bid...two-bid...aaaat..twohundredthousandnow...two-and-a-half?...three-bid,three-bid..."

Wouldn't be enough time for him to get to £60,000,000

Maybe be practically no. Selling the star isn’t likely to result in progress. Look what we did with the Bale money. One absolute star vs 5 good players.
Zaha could easily the difference between promotion and relegation to Palace.
They are only going to sell the if they get a decent price. And I don’t suspect that’s his market price. Needs to be more.
Flip it. Take Harry. We would all expect more than his actual value. We’d go loopy if he or Eriksen was sold to a rival. Even Toby to Man U with all the stink he’s made. Palace no different.
This is the main reason why Liverpool have got who they want. Offering lots of dosh.

Liverpool got who they wanted the last 3-4 seasons and we've finished above them every season. This season will be no different in my opinion.

Not my main point obviously but Liverpool we’re behind us by a long way after selling their star to Barca (thanks for proving my point :)) however money is getting them closer (£ on manager included).

Simply put to get Zaha we will have to pay a pretty price for him.

ITK seems to suggest a bid has been accepted, shame is that it’s not from us.

From Ed Malyon

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...w-cheikou-kouyate-wilfried-zaha-a8472851.html

"Wilfried Zaha, however, will not be leaving the club and long-standing suitors Tottenham, who have previously had bids rejected for the Ivorian, won't be making any move for him this summer. "

Still seems a bit too convenient to me, with Ayew and Kouyate also close. Per that info Meyer wants £144k a week and a big sign on bonus, they are already one of the highest turnover to wages in the league I believe.

Especially as we've had ITK from both sides on it suggesting it's not dead.

Zaha's behaviour has been very respectful, but you can tell he really wants a move.

Weren't the English press saying Bale wasn't moving even as we were buying players with that money?

Seems a bit like lets tell the press its not happening to keep the fans happy and make it look like we tried and then we got an offer we could not refuse and WZ asked us to let him go......

Seeing as Palace supposedly didn't have much money at all for transfers according to Hodgson a couple weeks ago, I doubt they've suddenly gone on a massive splurge without some money coming into the club (Zaha deal)
