Why quiet man Davies is so important to Pochettino

Mention the name Ben Davies and Mauricio Pochettino's face invariably breaks into a warm smile. The Tottenham Hotspur manager is not one for singling out individuals because for him it's all about the collective. However, sometimes there are players who give everything for that collective and it would not exist without their efforts.

Solid professional who I'm happy to remain at the club. I give Rose the edge when it comes to our attacking left full back options.

But I can't complain whenever Ben steps in.

I'm not surprised he brings a smile to Poch's face. He bides his time and never a murmur of complaint, but when he's called upon he does a excellent job. He can cover LB and LCB and his attacking stats are way better than you'd expect. I'm sure he'd run through walls for Poch and that alone makes him an extremely valuable asset. Players like him and Harry Winks are the backbone of the squad.

Managers love loyal, well behaved, versatile footballers
who can play to orders and never complain.
Why wouldn't they?
Their faces sometimes 'light up'
when their names are mentioned.

And fans should go along too
with this glowing testimonial.
Dier is another,
and these were some of the reasons that JJ
was loved by Spurs and England managers alike
though not so much by fans.
It's the extra that home grown players give
to compensate at times
for their their lack of absolute ability.

Spurs generate a 'feel good' team
factor under Pochettino
and a family feel at the club
and players like Davies are instrumental in this.

But we still need 'edge ' players like Rose
and flair players like Dele to drive us forward.
