Who would you have to replace Gomes?

Firstly I'm not saying we should definitely get rid of the loveable (sometimes) octopus. At times he's fantastic and if he could get back to last season's form there aren't any better in the league.

Sadly though he's made plenty of errors recently and I think we have to at least consider replacing him. However, as with all transfers, there's no point replacing him for the sake of it. The player we bring in has to be better...so who is realistically available?

Having watced 20 minutes of Valencia v Osasuna the Valencia keeper looks good (which made me start this thread) but I'm hoping most of you on here have a bit more knowledge than my having watched 20 minutes of La Liga.

So if we are to get rid of Gomes...who do we bring in?

If anyone says David James I'll ban them.

Claudio Bravo, Real Sociedad keeper.

You do realise we sold Valencia that keeper, right?

He's awesome mate, back four have been a bit shit infront of him this year but he's very solid, I'd say Pulop too of Sevilla but there's no fucking chance they'd ever sell to us.

I'm not really up on goalkeepers, but what about that fella that used to play in goal for Portsmouth a while back

Cudicini for the rest of the season
Get Gomes's head right, or what ever the problem is, but Gomes is a top keeper when he isn't making those stupid mistakes.

Stick a cardboard cutout between the sticks. At least the ball will bounce back off it.

If we were to replace, I would've liked Manuel Neuer but he's going to Bayern Munich. I suggest Hugo Lloris.

Do you reckon Lloris is gettable? I'd have thought he's on United's radar and are we really a bigger team than Lyon?

Dont see why not. We dealt with them re Zokora and was no problems - unless of course you are implying the reason they wouldnt sell to us is because he was so bad that they are agrieved

Shay Given?

I don't actually think Given would be much better than Gomes. Quite apart from the fact that he must be a bit out of practice at the moment, he was never one for commanding his area and I don't think he'd stop some of the shots that Gomes does. Admittedly he was less clanger-prone but I don't think he's good enough to mean he'd be a significant step up.

we should just sign an eastern meditation guru to sort Gomes' head and concentration out.

Aren't United signing De Gea? If they are they won't need Lloris. I say we're on par with Lyon. If Lloris wants to move on I'm sure he'll consider us, maybe Kaboul can put in a word for us.

I think this is the problem, The fact is that when Gomes is not dropping a (EPL ball sized) bollock, he is still head and shoulders better than all but the very, very best who we aren't going to get anyway.

Still Gomes for me, unless we could get someone like the Schalke keeper Neuer ?, which we won't because he's off to Bayern.

Rene Adler will be playing Champions League next season so he's not a realistic target. Lyon (Lloris) probably will be too but they could still finish out of the top three.

Has anyone seen Igor Akinfeev or Alphonse Areola play?

Sergio Asenjo has fallen off the map since De Gea replaced him.

Sure, he's not necessarily a major upgrade, but to what though? the level of De Sar and Cech? I think Gomes makes equally good saves, as has Given but the difference is that Given doesn't make those bizarre gaffes which does not install confidence in the back 4. Stability the key at the mo.
Of course if we had a stable back 4 all the better.

I'm not a big fan of Lloris and I suspect we would have to pay top money if we wanted to buy him. I don't think he would consider us anyways.

I'd rather we just stick with Gomes. He's going through a tough patch of form but he's come out of it before and will do so again
