I wonder if the players would even play behind closed doors, if there's an increased (albeit small) chance of catching the virus. After all, we don't know what the medium to long term effects if it are.

Well here’s another thought. Say it’s decided to play games behind closed doors, can you imagine the crowds outside the grounds that Liverpool play at “to be there to celebrate winning the league?”. Similar, I expect for those avoiding relegation.
Voiding the league is the safest and simplest option, although it would be very, very hard for Liverpool to stomach (It’s like something that would happen to us!!!!).

I agree. I think it’s all posturing now anyway. Both the PL and TV companies are doing their best to negotiate a deal to mitigate their loses. In the meantime the clubs have to look like they are doing the best they can to restart games. I suspect there are 14 clubs who’d vote to void it now should there be a vote today.

From fanboy footballing perspective only as we all know football really doesnt matter now, its about being safe, saving lives etc:

like many, I was very happy when season was suspended because i really dislike liverpool and as others have pointed out, you would expect that to happen to Spurs if they were running away with the league. However, as reality sets in, this could be more damaging to Spurs than Liverpool.

We finally have a super stadium that competes with the best and we also have the most decorated manager in world football. Even though this season has been terrible, this suspension has come at the wrong time. I feel we were ready to kick on next season but the financial implications of this suspension is likely to be quite severe and may set us back for a few years again.

To sum up, we cant afford this season to be null and void and need it to start as soon as possible.

I agree with you, I have said what I think will happen rather than what I ‘want’ to happen. I see a void season as inevitable myself and I think the reality of that is coming soon. I believe the Dutch league is close to being scrapped and others are going to follow suit in my opinion.

If the games don’t start until the next season starts, then why not play the remaining games of this season with the result counting for next season too?

Because teams who go down....won't? And European places wouldn't be sorted until some point mid season maybe.

French league voided today.

Really hard to see how we're going to justify it going ahead over here at this stage.

In terms of what is fairest? Relegate Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and West Ham....it's the right thing to do.

They cant end as is or end on ppg either. None of that is fair when nothing was mathematically final. Just call it a voided season. Top 4 doesnt matter nor does EL places because there definitely should not even be international competition next season. No pro/rel. Void the season and work with a view towards starting up again in September. Feel for Leeds and WBA but they cant add 2 teams because it’ll fuck up the rest of the pyramid.

Calling it voided surely brings about the least legal challenges too?

I guess they’d have to give everyone the same prize money.

C'mon Premier League, you know what you have to do. Let us make Chinese takeaway jokes at Liverpool's expense.

The only thing they'd have to contend with are a bunch of angry tweets and petitions from deluded scousers.

As imagine most have seen, and may have been posted elsewhere, the French leagues have awarded everything based on current positions. PSG crowned champions, Toulouse relegated etc.

Sets a precedence for the same to be done here which is a shame.

Indeed,

France - Declared champions, relegation and promotion awarded, European places based on current positions (PPG)

Scotland - Declaring champions, relegations and promotion awarded (subject to league reconstruction), European places based on PPG

Belgium - Declared champions, relegation and promotion awarded, European places based on current positions (all teams played same amount of games)

Holland - Not declared champions or allowing relegation/promotion however European places decided based on PPG

If League does not complete, Premier League will decide if there is Promotion and Relegation and if Liverpool are awarded title, however it will be PPG that settles European places.

If it is PPG I wouldn't be too unhappy, I would be quite pleased to have a season with no European football really if not CL football.

Being less facetious about this, I genuinely dont care what happens with football.

Give Liverpool the title. Do whatever is needed with relegation and European places.

Just dont have them playing any more games.

Apparently PSG have also been awarded the 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 trophies to save time.
