How can you have any integrity of the competition with shorter halves? Neutral venues? Just scrap it FFS It cannot be a fair outcome for teams fighting for their status when the competition suddenly changes like this.
Of all the stupid ideas I've seen thrown around in this crisis this one tops the lot.

Bloody hell.

If it isn't safe to play 90 minutes, it isn't safe to play at all....it's as simple as that!

I could just about, maybe, possibly, see a bit of logic in having three thirty minute segments in the opening week of fixtures after such a long break from playing a game of football, but there's no way they should reduce a game from ninety minutes.

What's the time gap between each third and will I have time to get a pie and a pint?

Yep I’ve said this all along, it’s a bit farcical some of these ideas. Sure they finish the season ‘possibly’ but with absolutely zero integrity and results that are totally compromised.

I'm not sure about neutral venues either as it will be a disadvantage to the home team. They would already be at a disadvantage due to playing behind closed doors, but neutral venues would be even worse. Is the only reason for using neutral venues to prevent fans from gathering at the stadiums? Surely they could prevent that by announcing that any gatherings of fans near the stadium will result in the match being abandoned.

Neutral venues and close doors automatically make the season invalid for me, it’s simply not a level playing field for all. It would be a level playing field if every fixture was played like that, but that’s obviously impossible now. The season is compromised beyond fixing I feel.

The final games will definitely have a Going Through The Motions feel to them. We know where the league title is going, so it's going to be all about relegation and the European places (which may not even take place next season). It's all about the money. Not that I blame the clubs as some of them will really struggle to survive if the season is abandoned.

It’s not so much the going through the motions, although I agree with you that will happen too. It’s that the results have will have no validation behind them. That’s just a fact as far as I am concerned, unpopular with some people I’m sure, but the results of the season are simply not valid as the whole competition was not completed as a level playing field. That’s a fact that which cannot be changed no matter how it’s spun.

Then muppet fans would gather outside Arsenal games etc to get them abandoned etc

Lively piece by Barney Ronay who's always interesting even when he's wrong.
I gather that he's against a resumption of football this season, and he's probably right this time.

''Members will thrash out some kind of schedule, informed by their own leak-ridden internal struggles.
This is an argument increasingly taking place in view of the neighbours, and leaves elite English football
looking less like a family, more like a loose accumulation of venality, short-termism and greed.
Hey! Who knew?''

Watford opposition to the neutral venues and it’s perfectly understandable. I totally agree with the Watford chairman"So is this fair? Does it have any semblance of sporting integrity? Of course not."

This season is gone, there is no way around it. The fight to keep it going for money is all that remains. Integrity for fair results seem of no consequence.

Possibly, but they'd be risking arrest and their families lives to do so. We all know that there are plenty of idiot fans though.

Wouldn't it make sense to play the big defining games ASAP, rather than play games in the original match day order? Let the relegation teams play each other first, etc so if they can't complete the season we might have a slightly clearer picture of how the season might look at the end. Saying that an incomplete season is still a major issue so maybe it doesn't really matter.

Still wouldn't give a good picture. A team could still have to play 3 or 4 of the top 8 teams after that and above religation by a few points while a team just below them has only mid table teams.

As you say, an incomplete season doesn't matter as it's still incomplete. Only if they finish the season will it matter, but still unsure they will get that done.

A third Brighton player has tested positive. I can't see how they can restart the season whilst things are like they are.

Not proving quite so easy to prevent infection it seems, with players from multiple leagues testing positive whilst only taking part in INDIVIDUAL training, who would have thought it eh?

The cynic in me isn't surprised another player from a club so vociferous about the end of the season has caught the virus
