Where to watch the Man U game...

I will be in London with my girlfriend for this coming weekends game. This will be both of ours first time in London and I am looking for a low key place to watch the game and get some good eats and beer. My girl probably isn't up for a real rawkus atmosphere as we would have been traveling for upwards of 30 hours. So if you could give me any names of local establishments that offer a quieter, smoke free setting, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks and COYS!

I don't think the emirates would be showing the match but you'd struggle to find a less rawkus place to watch football

I'll be watching it from behind the couch. I'm pretty confident with this team we can get something but there's something about Man U games that just makes me feel ill throughout. I'm still not convinced the full time whistle has actually gone on the game at their place this season. Still convinced we'll lose it somehow.

Where abouts is the emirates?

I am all for a little bit of rawkus nature. That is part of the experience. If she is up for it, where would be a good place?

Coborn Arms is an alright pub. Watched the arse - spurs game in there. Beers cold and food is alright. Good atmosphere! Its right near mile end station.
E3 2DA is the postcode.

Dude he will have flown thousands of miles, first time in London and has his gf and you're suggesting a pub near Mile End Station

I would suggest something like the Walkabout next to Temple Station. Lots of screens and sofas. Will be fairly quiet on a Sunday afternoon (unless there's some meaningless Rugby game at the same time). Phone in advance and book a table

Failing that I would suggest the upstairs in the Slug and Lettuce at Angel. Again lots of nice sofas. Gets a bit noisy downstairs but up is pretty quiet (it's near the Emirates after all). You can phone in advance and book a table too

He asked for a low key place, its close to mile end station and will be close to where he's staying.
Have U been to the coborn arms?
What's wrong with mile end?! Apart for all the wet spam fans?

For your info cravenspurs, pretty much all non domestic buildings in UK, including pubs, restaurants etc are happily completely smoke free by law, and the law is pretty much 100% observed.

I do not think you'll struggle to get a pub in central London to watch it, just get there early to get a seat and view

When I do go into central London to meet with friends we usually end up in the west end - Walkabout - Waxy O'Connors - O'Neills.

They are always very busy though and will have more Man Utd than Tottenham fans, The Springbok though near Covent Garden is a Tottenham bar but its quite small

Go and watch it in a pub round white hart lane. Get there for 1530 and you will be with groups of spurs fans but it won't be too busy as everyone will be at the game when it kicks off.

It will be gang tott nam style.

White hart lane is smoke free and is pretty quiet these days. You should try there.... ;)

Well there are a couple of OK pubs near there - the Victoria, for one. And, of course if you head either towards Bethnal Green, Bow or Vicky Park/Lauriston Road there are the odd cool places. But the area immediately around MES it is a less than salubrious little stretch with more than its fair share of old East End chavvy boozers (cor blimey gav'ner, fackin eww etc.), not to mention spammers. I really wouldn't want that to be representative of London, and in particular, the Shoreditch/Bethnal Green/Dalston triangle, which is the centre of the world when it comes to fashion. Could direct him to a lot of cool pubs but they don't really show the football. Cat and Mutton on Broadway market does but it would be a pain to direct to. Mile End really isn't that nice to get to from Excel either, if you're a non-resident - 2 x DLR to Bow Church and walk 10 mins or DLR to Westferry, then a bus or in to bank and back out to Mile End

Anyway :)
