Where is the money coming from?

Now I'm no accountant, but it seems to me like we have spent a lot of money over this window and the previous two. Our last declared profits were £172m and we've spent roughly that. This year's financial statement will surely show hugely-reduced revenue, with gate receipts shattered and Champions League money falling considerably. So far we have only recouped money on Eriksen also and have more senior players on the books put another £200-plus p/w player in Bale.

How are we apparently now putting bids in for the likes of Škriniar and also going after strikers like Milik?

Is this window a bit of a roll of the dice? Especially considering recent news that we won't be using our expensive new stadium again until March?

So far we've spent very little. the wage bill was relatively low, giving us the wiggle room for Gaz. Reguilon has been reported as a very small up front fee. Doherty and PEH were cheap.

Don't believe for a second these reports of us spending £40M plus on a player. Any deals we do will be heavily structured to not pay much now. I'd imagine it's why we still haven't bought a striker.

Well it looked like we were heading for another average season after the everton game so maybe it forced levy to spend. We need the money that CL football brings.

We finally make moves in the transfer window and some of you think where the money is coming from? Just enjoy it.

You’d think after years of positive net spend. That we will have enough cash in reserve to start signing players at a negative.

Oh...go on then. A sensible reply.

We're spending the money we saved by not pursuing the cheese room. ;)

No Dairy-Lea for Doherty.

Maybe ENIC are protecting their investment.
Making the CL will probably go a long way to offsetting the loss of fans.

ENIC are an investment company, to me they seem prepared to spend/invest in a subdued market. The signings so far seem very shrewd, the antithesis of the £millions we wasted in the last decade or so. It seems a far more targeted and specific approach but I’m not sure who’s responsible

During times of recession or economic downturn is the best time to get value for money when buying high value assets. Levy and ENIC as spending now as value for money of assets are the best they will be for a while.
The club know other clubs need to get liquid finance/assets to increase turnover, to meet loans/operating costs, and with the pandemic income from the game/investors is at the lowest it has been in years.
The club know this is our best chance to spend and get back to get a squad to get back to CL and to challenge as high as possible, for the best value and least amount of investment.
Levy and Mourinho have agreed a set of targets and know the clubs to target.

Players are being sold for much lower prices this year because of covid.
Clubs profits are lower this year because of covid.

Therefore the loss of income is partially balanced by the millions saved through much smaller transfer fees. I’ve said before Levy will not walk away from a bargain. The players he buys this year should be worth much more when the transfer market is back to normal. It’s not the value of the amount of money in your bank account it’s the amount of money on the playing field and on your balance sheet.

All of our transfer dealings will be structured over the coming seasons. You can bet your life Levy is all over that and doing the appropriate calculations. Buying in a depressed market is a tried and trusted investment strategy.
