Arteta thinking he's being clever in press conferences when in reality we all know he's just a smug, rude, arrogant prick
But the whole point of these pundits is to get people talking and paying attention . . .Troy Deeney.
Seen a clip doing the rounds of Troy Deeney on the Three Up Front podcast saying that whenever he faced Spurs with Watford they thought they’d get something because somebody in our team would make a mistake. It’s his usual bravado about character and guts which never stands up to any scrutiny. During Watford’s 2015-2020 stint in the EPL (the period he’s referring to) across 12 meetings Watford managed a grand total of 3 draws and 1 win.
Deeney is another ex-player who is being indulged because he has big opinions but they are invariably bad opinions, and his recent foray into management has only further damaged any credibility he might have as some sort of authority on the sport. He and his Watford teammates may well have ‘believed they would get chances’ against Spurs under Pochettino but history tells us that their belief was without any merit, as their record against us under Poch was bloody awful.
Yeah, I don’t see why the European teams aren’t just cracking on with the qualifiers. The nations league was supposed to make friendlies more competitive, but the truth is there’s just too many games. These international breaks. There is another in November, by which time there would have been 11 Premier League games and 6 internationals.
I could really do without the Nations League. At least some countries are playing World Cup qualifiers.
Yep, surprised we haven't changed qualifying to be a mini tournament in itself - get it all done in a 2 week window of whatever.Yeah, I don’t see why the European teams aren’t just cracking on with the qualifiers. The nations league was supposed to make friendlies more competitive, but the truth is there’s just too many games.
Genuinely think FIFA need to reassess the way internationals work nowadays. It’s a global sport now, and you have players jetting around the world back and forth once a month.
I’d like to see dedicated months for internationals, not just 4-5 days here and there. Have a whole month at the end of the season for all the qualifiers, and then maybe one two week break during the season just to keep the units on the same wavelength.
Well said Gaffer.Has a player turned in a Man of the Match performance? Yes? Well, let's make him captain.
Has a seasoned veteran turned out for the first team and rolled back the years? Yes? Well, let's make him captain too.
Did one of the front players work hard for the team, but for little personal reward? Yes? Well, hey, let's make him captain too.
And what about the keeper who masterfully commanded his area?
Or the centre back who brilliantly marshalled the defence?
Or the midfielder who never stopped running for the cause?
Or the DM who put in a well-timed reducer early doors?
Fuck it, let's make them all captain too.
In fact, let's make everyone a captain, except for the young lad who plays with a maturity beyond his years.
And why don't we make him captain?
Because he's FUTURE CAPTAIN MATERIAL, that's why.
Honestly, this obsession with taking a good performance by any single player and extrapolating it to them having a leadership role for the rest of their career is doing my fucking nut in.
In part, because it's such a tired old cliché.
And, in part, because, deep down, we all know there's a shit team performance just around the corner and what will we all write?
"There are no fucking leaders in this team..."
So, please, for the love of God, can we stop with this captaincy thing? They're grown men and football professionals. Playing well should be reward in itself. They don't need an armband and the opportunity to call a coin toss to give their life meaning.
So, stop it.
Now.
Please.
Really rolling back the years with this performance…I nominate @Nine while nine to be the club skipper.

There's regular league games, cup games, league cup games, european games, preseason tours, end of season tours, friendlies during mid season winter breaks and now they're looking to add an extra tournament in, they're just beating the players into exhaustion. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cgl0zrxl8z9o
Especially as only Ledley could really be described as a Rolls Royce of a player… kept in the garage all week and only used on weekends.Referring to someone as “a Rolls Royce of a player.”
I’ve heard it assigned to hundreds of players over the years.
I’ve now heard it approximately forty times solely about William Saliba in the last twelve months.
Shit phrase.
