I'm talking of those 4 guys sky uses for their transfer show. I'd much rather hear about ndombele from a french football journalist or expert. You know someone who might have actually seen him play.

Fair enough.

I thought you were suggesting that you'd prefer it if you'd heard of them, because that's what you said.

But I take your point about them having actually seen the players they're talking about.

You're not, don't be so hard on yourself.

I watch spurs and any game that's on tv in the pub. I have zero knowledge of lo celso, i would like someone who is really informed about spanish football telling me his strengths and weaknesses rather than some journalist i've never heard of who watched a youtube vid on him.

I wouldn't say you represent those who are typical of SSN watchers in this country, not at least those who take the opinions of their pundits as gospel, you only have to look at the reactions on Twitter and in general convk to realise that people are actually blinded by Sky's media presence and take their word for everything.

Sky have a formula and stick to it, they pander to those who love Premier League football, those people don't need to know about what's happening in La Liga or Serie A because they don't care, ultimately its a waste of time, people subscribe for Premier League content.

I'd go one further and say some of these people barely even watch football, they get their opinions from SSN and 5 minute YT videos then when it's match day they either passively watch whilst spending every 3 minutes tweeting or don't even bother to watch the match at all but bask in the glory after or jump on the "'INSERT NAME' out" bandwagon.

Most of the pundits in the UK are ex-players who don't know much about players outside of the PL and Champions League. They are talking heads, mainly there as recognisable faces who can offer 'been there and done it' insight.

I'm willing to bet that most of them haven't watched Ndombele or Lo Celso much, if at all.

On the flip side, literally all of the proper European football journalists and the statty, nerdy types who you find on Twitter and tactics blogs are amazed that we signed these two players. They just get less air time, if you listen to radio instead of podcasts, so the opinions don't reach that far into the public conscience

That said, it's always good to keep a low profile and let the pundits focus on other teams. We have been treated this way before every season for god knows how long and I'm fine with it - it certainly takes the pressure off our new boys.

I've got a feeling TN and GLC will be being talked about A LOT very soon though...

This is superb point about the difference between ex-players and analysts who take a wider and more thoughtful view of the game. Also, a reason why people getting mad about the shit that ex-player pundits say is a bit pointless.

To be fair most of the football isn't on ESPN, it's on NBC, who I actually think do quite a good job with it. ESPN FC is just a load of barely-relevant ex-coaches shouting at each other about nothing in particular, while Shaka Hislop tries to calm everyone down and some random Latin-American bloke sits there smiling stupidly.

As a caveat I haven't lived in the US for a couple of years so maybe they've changed it up now, but it was certainly like that while I was over there.

Nope, ESPN is still crap and unwatchable :poop:

I suspected as much. I don't know how NBC gets it so "right" (up to a point) but Fox, ESPN, and whatever the fuck the BR thing that has the CL now is, all get it so wrong. Although BR have poached whatserface who I have a massive crush on so they can't be all bad.

Kate Abdo? ...i'd knock the dust off that!

I suppose they approach footy as they do all their sports, which are generally speaking crap.(Bring on the negs!)
I also watch a bit of the Canadian coverage on TSN and Sportsnet, and they are only slightly better...they instruct their pundits to deliver their analysis looking straight down the barrel of the camera and its fucking creepy.

NBC do decent job, the two Robbie's are clued in as is Kyle, and Rebecca Lowe is definitely watchable and knowledgeable. Fox......absolute garbage, the American commentators that are in a studio in Culver City are absolute dross!!
Bleacher Report (BR) is fun when we're playing because Steve Nash is on there and he really gets into the game, making it fun to watch.

BR also have Steve Nash (massive Spurs fan if you didn't know) so it was fun watching him on our run to the final

Disappointed in Barry Glendenning on the Football Weekly pod - this window proves that Poch is in complete control over signings [not matter what he claims!]. To just toss off this idea he won't be here by the end of the season. I just find it lazy. Poch rightly demanded investment and boy did he get it. He wanted to build for the next 5 years and for me, that's clearly begun.

And yeah, caveat, just how bad Zidane is at Real worries me. But we weathered that before.

Yeah, my jaw dropped when he casually mentioned that. The others on the pod sounded equally surprised.

I see a discussion online between Liverpool fans saying that our business isn’t impressive really. Keith and Fabinho are both better than NDombele and that every prem manager would take Oxlade-Chamberlain over Lo Celso...

Classic case of never actually having seen our two new boys play even a minute.

Gullit is a terrible pundit. He came over to Norway's PL studio one weekend last season and spouted so much shit, particularly about us, that I'd be amazed if he's ever invited back.

Chelsea 2nd.

Er, cheers Ruud. Insightful stuff.
