He's the nearest thing that the BBC have to a TalkSport presenter, in that he's there to wind people up but he properly loves Ange and his way of playing the game.
Listening to 606 last night and Savage was the one trying to bait Spurs fans by constantly saying "you're up to 8th" and "are you pleased you're up to 8th".l, like league position is anything to do with anything this early in a season.

He was trying to use it as a dig, while ignoring how we've played and improved so far.
Like, "You're happy but you're still only in 8th". He even asked one caller if they thought we'd finish above Fulham this season?!
Came across as a right bell.
it's just a construct isn't it... they decide on this week's opposing contrary opinions between them, before going on air - they just the need people to call in... and going well overboard in any given direction is what gets the callers queuing up. Chris is always very complimentary about Ange though, and Robbie calls him a hipster for it.

I think Sutton doesn't fit the usual mould of being an ex-Utd/Liverpool/Arsenal player so he doesn't go for the easy narrative that most pundits fall into.

He often plays the role of devils advocate giving an 'alternative' viewpoint which rubs people up the wrong way. Not in a argumentative O'Hara, Barton, Savage, Agbonlahor style. I always find him quite similar to Martin O'Neill in that way that where he says quite interesting things but can be quite dismissive of lazy/stupid punditry.

Savage in being a bell shocker.

if he wasn't on BBC, he'd definitely be a Talkshite presenter.

I think if Ange took over as the leader of Hezbolla, Sutton would still praise him/them to the hilt. He has a big hard on for Ange and happily it suits us cos he’s ours but make no mistake, Sutton can be a proper twat at times.

As for Neville, it’s all good and well praising us but he simply shouldn’t be allowed to commentate when Utd play. Same with Carragher and Liverpool. If he thinks saying ‘Spurs are playing excellent’ for 15 seconds during his commentary, makes up for him being very obviously agitated throughout and being ultra negative towards Utd thus ruining the whole tone of the commentary, then he’s wrong. Neville and Carragher can happily go at it when Utd play Liverpool but leave them out any other time. I’d rather have a dinner date with Richard keys than listen to Angry Neville for 90 mins. LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME SAY GARY!

Think its the first time I've heard Bentancur get individual praise from our media.

Rest is Football (Lineker, Shearer, Richards) waxing lyrical about him today.

Neville can offer some great insight.

The problem is because he is so United he goes into real deep analysis/apathy about their football and situation so the opposition only really get a "they were very very good today'

I watched his analysis after the game and he spent 15 mins or so really going deep about United's play/issues (which he's been doing for 4 years now) but didn't really go deep on our part and just quickly summarised it with "they were very good".

If they are going to have Neville on United games they need a neutral POV with him who can perhaps go even deeper on the opposition.

I watched 15 mins of Neville ranting about United to get to something about what made Tottenham good and he hardly said anything of detail other than about our defenders.

Fernandes was that bad in the first half that the sending off didn’t really affect the game, they already looked like they were playing with ten men, possible even nine or eight.
Yep. I watched the game with my Mrs' family who are all united, one of them genuinely turned and asked if Bruno was playing about half an hour into the game, to be honest I didn't notice him myself until the red card lol

I like both Neville and Caragher as pundits, but you’re both spot on, they shouldn’t be doing the games of their own team.

Yeah I thought that stood out too. They were really effusive in a kind of “footballers’ footballer” way.

This is likely to be the gripe of fans of any club only when their teams play United or Liverpool. The rest of the world couldn't care less. You probably don't either if it's United v Southampton for example. My onions on pundits are well known on here because I keep banging on about it, both are decent enough pundits and I think a lot of them get unfair criticism, but the jackpot here when you get down to the nitty gritty, is Neville losing it over United creates 'news' and that's the bonus they are after.

Neville & Carragher are their main men so of course they'll do the 'big' games, it's unrealistic to expect Sky to take them off air to avoid offending the sensibilities of a relatively small section of fans when millions probably don't see it as an issue.

As for yesterday, (here we go again) we got enough credit but put your nuetral fans hat on, the actual story is United, how they have fallen and the managers position. Like it or not. People complaining that we got ten minutes and they got 45 or whatever, I mean, really? It's all fluff fleshed out with unrealistic expectation IMO

I never watch the pundits chat, just watch the game and switch off afterwards.
I'll watch MotD for a bit of insight into each game but really can't be bothered to watch people talking shit after a game because I'm either buzzing that we won, or pissed off that we lost!

I like the old fashioned build up to cup finals and such but that's not been the same since they stopped having coverage from like 10am on terrestrial telly.

Yes, I'm old. 😁

haha, yeah, watching the build up from the morning onwards was a ritual when I was a kid.

As for pundits, they say things I disagree with and things I agree with. Much like anyone and anything else, it's how it is and how it's always been. You're right, it's waffle and the choice on watching it or not is clear.

Would have been interesting to see what Jenas made of it all but then he became all weird and a bit of a pest. Now we are down to Darren (I played for Spurs you know) Bent and that's about it on the pundit list.

I can think of another six or seven former Spurs players doing TV punditry off the top of my head and there's probably more.

None of them are glowing about us though and he was higher profile / more recent than most. TBF Jenas wasn't glowing much either. We don't have those people that stick up for us much.

Off the top of my head (not including Bent and Jenas): Souness, Redknapp (J), Hoddle, Crouch, Lineker, Murphy, Dawson, Robinson, O'Hara. And Ginola on occasion...

Fair but let's honest Souness and Redknapp never that complimentary/axe to grind. Linekar odd one (Leicester fan first and foremost it seems), Murphy/Dawson/Robinson andO'Hara are less high profile than Jenas was really. Crouchy isn't on all the games. My point is we dont have a Neville/Carragher type person who has our backs and is on most spurs games calling out the BS and talking about OUR good points.

Maybe it's my spurs tinted glasses but it really seems whenever we play we are lucky if they select someone that doesn't have a bit of hatred for us deep down.
