I beg to differ. The worst instance of them screwing us (and a couple of other teams) over was after the first world war. Spurs finished 20th in the old First Division in 1915, and the league was suspended because of the war. Post-war, the division was expanded to 22 teams. Chelsea, who finished 19th, kept their place, and Spurs were supposed to keep theirs too...but Arsenal, who finished 5th in Division 2 in 1915 somehow (with brown envelopes stuffed with cash is probably how) persuaded the league to vote on who was promoted/retained their places.

Here's how the second division table looked in 1915:
1) Derby
2) Preston
3) Barnsley
4) Wolves
5) Arsenal

Derby, Preston and Arsenal were voted into the top flight, Spurs were voted into the second division.

And to make it worse, because Arsenal have never been relegated since, they are the only team in the top flight to never actually earn their place there.
?? that’s when our parrot died ? legend says that’s where the phase sick as a parrot come from.

Definitely how. People received lifetime bans from the game as a result.

One of my saints mates just text to say "cheating bloody spurs! I hope Son gets the corona virus!"

I sent him back a Lemon emoji.

Saints fans still not having it that Odd Bod Junior dragged Sonny down for the penalty.

Thought this was one of the more creative responses though...

Although when Son lined up the penalty, it was never going to stay tutu... :sorry:

Latest from Arsemania:

"@razörist told me he was a fraud, that he wouldn’t do anything in the PL"
reply: "1 goal against 10 men city with a midfielder at centreback and you’re already sweating? He’s nothing special."

"Sp**s were brave, they sacked Pochettino just months after getting them to the CL final. We persisted with Emery for far too long. Sp**s got rewarded with one of the all time great managers, we got Pep's cone boy. You reap what you sew."

"Remember Arsenal looked good for 30 minutes under Arteta in his first game and AM told me that he's already a better manager than Mourinho?"

"Mourinho winning again with a ton of luck, as he did throughout his whole career."

"It isn't like scoring on your debut guarantees you will be a hit anyway. El Hadji Diouf scored 2 goals on his Anfield debut."

"Sp**s just 4 points off Chelsea who're about to collapse the way things are going. Mourinho's 100% getting them top 4. Full credit to Levy."

"It's more realistic Sheffield will get Top 4 than Sp**s with Mourinho."

"Never seen a more jammy football club."

"City can't blame anyone but themselves game should be over at 1st half they totally owned Sp**s. Sp**s got lucky today mourinho is not good coach they are 5th with 37 points in 25 games explain how s**ty the other teams are in this league this year."

"I just stood up and applauded that Mourinho masterclass, have to give credit where it's due."

"Let's not forget Sp**s were 14th when Mourinho took over, they've climbed 9 place and are well on their way to getting 4th the way things are going. People on here were celebrating the appointment ffs."

"They will do nothing with Mourinho. And when he is done in 2 years time they will be worse off."

"Rather would wait 5 years to get better with Arteta than wanting Mourinho who would get sacked after 2-nd season in Arsenal. We can't never fit together."

"Weird that Sp**s are now in the mix for top 4 while they were 14th not so long ago. Meanwhile @Manberg keeps telling me I have to lower my expectations because we are 10th."

"Sp**s have a better team than Arsenal these days, it's that simple...they have been very good in the market since summer 2015, we have been very poor in that same period.

Sp**s still won't get top four though."

"Why do people keep insisting S**** won't get top 4? Is it denial? Like the people who are adamant Liverpool won't go unbeaten."

"Everton were fighting relegation when they appointed Ancelotti, now they're above us."

"They have a better team and better capability. We're as good as we're showing, which is rubbish. So yeah, over time they'll be above us."

"What a “masterclass” from Mourinho that was...

Wait for Man City to dominate the match, miss a million clear cut chances, then score from two shots against ten men...

Some of you are a disgrace"

"Was watching the highlights from the Sp**s - City game. Mike Dean must be one of the worst referees in any top flight league. He is just plain awful. How he can keep on refereeing year in and year out... Just pitiful!"

I find it incredibly childish and immature how gooners cannot type the word SPURS or TOTTENHAM

I assume these guys are grown men ?

Looks to me like they’ve set their website to change it automatically, which somehow is even more sad!

well if that's the case it says a lot about their forum administrators, here in Aus I have Gooner mates and they cant even type the words out when texting, I think this immaturity is bred into them

a lot of fucking good it does them

It's funny how Southampton fans have conveniently forgotten how Bertrand dived in an attempt to win a penalty earlier in the 2nd half, before their keeper fouled Son for our penalty. Luckily Lloris made a sensible decision to dramatically pull his hands away at the same moment Bertrand dived. Shame their keeper didn't and clawed at Son's stomach.

Arsenal fans complaining about diving always tickles me - anyone want to guess which team has been booked most for diving across the last two seasons?

No question Son was employing the 'dark arts' to some degree. And there was a bit of contact from the goalie. But by no means was it a mistake. Or not enough of one to turn around, according to VAR. If the penalty decision had gone against us, I doubt VAR would have turned it around and would stay with the call on the field. 'Cos it was kinda 50/50.

That said... I must having seeing problems. 'Cos I still don't understand how VAR gave Man City that penalty. Yeah, it was a bit of clumsy challenge, but from the angle they were replaying, it really looks like his (Aurier) toe brushes the ball first, before contact. So, the fact that it took them over 2 mins to overturn the call, and then you have what happened last night, just goes to show how messed up the use of VAR has become this season. One game they go out of their way to overturn the on-field call. And then last night, it takes them all of 30 secs to declare that there's not enough there to turn it over. So, which version is the correct way of using VAR?

It's hugely embarrassing that the ref association really didn't put enough thought into principles and governance of the system.

EG: ALWAYS stay with the call on the field, if you can't see enough in 20 seconds to turn it over.

In the case of the City penalty... the fact it took them two minutes, tells me they were searching for a reason to give it.

But I don't blame the Soton fans for feeling aggrieved, as I'd probably feel the same if it had been the other way around. And it was a huge gut punch, given that they had effectively played us off the field for 75 minutes. I'm sure they were irate and highly disappointed.

I don’t think it took them 2 minutes with the Man C pen, I think they got fed up waiting for the ball to go out of play so eventually told the ref to stop play. And they conclusively showed Aurier did not get the ball. Everyone - pundits, even Jose - all agreed it was a penalty.

Correct.
The decision was made more quickly than the 2 minutes, but the ball has to essentially be out of play (in a neutral area), before refs are allowed to blow for a VAR overrule.

I think VAR highlights how daft, or overly complicated we have made certain rules and will never work well until those things are simplified and directly in VAR’s case, sped up.

What annoyed me was the huge exaggeration by Aguero, he was as barely touched from a standing position and threw himself over. The contact did not warrant the reaction.

Sonny was running full pelt and any contact would unbalance him. Not every situation is identical. This is where the officials using VAR are falling down, which is horrifying as they are supposed to understand the game.
