Indeed everyone keeps bringing up his time at Yanited, but the fact is he should never have taken that job when he did. The infighting at boardroom level was absurd at the time, but I guess it was too big a job to turn down.
Spot on and Jose realised this which is why he was waiting for the right move this time and the timing couldn’t be much better for him to take the role at spurs tbh.

also regardless of that he came 2nd at Utd to peps 100pt man.city and he won 3 trophies so hardly a massive failure especially compared to how all other managers have done since fergie.

I’m just trying to get my head around this.

Poch in charge, rival fans “never won anything, not a world class manager”.

Poch sacked “terrible decision, brilliant manager, needed more time blah blah blah”.
Spot on haha they’re shitting themselves about us finally getting over the line and winning something and if/when we do the club will only go in one direction, levy has been building the platform the last 15-20 years we just need that first trophy to have the belief we are finally a big club and can win things. No one better than Jose to try and get us over the line.

Poch changed the mentality of the club to be tougher and more consistent but Jose can now build on that and get us to have the belief we can get over the line. perfect timing of appointment in my opinion.

Arsenal fans are actually really pissed off with this, had so many sly comments about Mourinho from them and predicting the usual doom and gloom but now they seem really angry and I think the anger is directed at their board because they are not showing any ambition by keeping Emery around whilst we are by hiring Jose.
I mean, they all wanted Emery out a while ago with Jose replacing him.

They are the biggest club in the world. If United wants you, you dont turn them down.

It was heavily reported for years that he always wanted to go to United. In fact there were rumours he was totally dumbfounded he didn't get the job in 2013 after Fergie because everyone knew he was leaving Madrid in the summer months in advance.

Please don't count the charity shield as a trophy. If you do Arsenal have won six trophies in the last five years :cautious:

I've read comments from several countries and teams. The general consensus is that we were very disloyal and believed our own hype. That we'll be back to mediocrity, specially after Mourinho fights everyone in the next months

This movement has made us one of the hated teams. We were one of the admired (no opinion in this. I actually read this quote)

We’ve had nothing but dogs abuse from rival clubs for years - the admiration lasted a very short honeymoon period in our couple of Poch seasons before we moved to Wembley. Not only do I not give a flying fuck what the rest of the football world thinks of us, it’s a myth that we were liked anyway.

It just demonstrates one thing, they're only being honest about him once he's gone.

The fact that most opposition fans are saying that 'Jose will fail/ruin us' makes me happy, because it's not what they actually think. Its bravado.
Make no mistake, they're worried, very worried.

Id be worried if last week Woolwich had sacked Emery and appointed Jose.
Id be very worried.

Statement 1 was a form of downplaying Poch to hide their jealousy of the job he was doing.

Statement 2 is their true feeling all along that Poch is a brilliant manager. He is.

It's just brilliant managers can hit a brick wall. It's modern football. I hoped Poch could be our Ferguson but it seems the era of managers sticking around for a decade and more is over.

True to form, he is going to keep faith in Roberto in goal. This man takes stubbornness to a whole new level

I don’t know Puff. His style to me has been to completely drop a number of players from the squad in his spell here.

It is a strange one though because this keeper has clearly seen better days. Let’s at least hope the midfield and defence turn up this week. That would at least give the keeper a chance. Whilst the keeper should perhaps be dropped based on form, in my view the greater crimes are being committed by those swinging the lead. But because they did not punch the ball in the net they are not so much under the microscope. The real cancer is the outfield players if you look deeper.

Think he’s caught between a rock and a hard place with the keeper situation.. I think he has to persevere with Roberto. For me the call is the keepers to make and sure Pelle has approached it as such. If Roberto feels right I’d go with it. It’s a confidence thing for me, if it were solely based on performance we’d be fielding a team of two!! As others have said there are many others who are just as culpable but their mistakes are obviously less noticeable !!!!

looks like noble will make it and Antonio to. Antonio on the bench for me and noble starts. there is no real alternative to Roberto . martin is a practice keeper only ? anang is too young and inexperienced. what a state of affairs. fabianski really does hold this team together.

in defence surely ogbonna will be back and masuaka ?

we also need to play someone up top with haller to get him in the game.
so a slightly changed team from what I was predicting last time out.
I would like us to play 442 with yarmo up top with haller and Anderson playing as a right side midfield.
roberto
fredericks diop ogbonna masuaka
anderson noble rice anodgrass
yarmolenko haller

subs martin cresswell balbuena antonio ajeti fornals wilshere

surely they will try fo this one ? can only see a defeat but I live in hope. come on west ham wake up !

Dreading this game so much. Does anyone have any hope we'll get a result? I know you can't predict this fixture, but I honestly cannot see anything other than a Tottenham win tomorrow.

We will do well to keep it to just a 3 goal defeat.

The best thing to do this weekend is to avoid Match of the Day. ‘Squeaky’ Lineker will have them first on and personally interview Jose about how many trophies he can win them!

At the end of last season someone pointed at the XGoals we allowed to be created and fired at Fab was one of the highest in the league, certainly the highest of those around us in the league. He had a great season which papered over the cracks of us allowing those sorts of opportunities. Faced with an inferior keeper (or even the same keeper in lesser form) we would naturally concede more goals. It was therefore asserted that we needed a partner for Rice in front of the defence and or some new recruits at the back to stop teams creating at will against us. This didn't happen and to an extent we are paying the price for it.

However, while Roberto has made some decent stops he has also let in what should have been routine catches and has even created goals with barmy distribution.

We need to stop the regular flow of solid chances for the opposition for sure. But when you can just kick a ball into the area and he'll punch it in, or hit a weak free kick from a third of the pitch away and score you can't win games.

I felt **** about this game before the last few days - I told a couple of Spurs I work with that I fully expect them to get their season going on Saturday as we are so regularly that stepping stone game for clubs underperforming or struggling. With the managerial change the question is what impact will that have on the attitude of their players. Are they going to go out there and play for a spot in the new man's team, are they going to sulk having lost the man who made them look good or can Moanrino introduce his particular brand of toxicity earlier than ever before...

I never leave games early but I can see us being 3/4 down inside 35 minutes and considering the exit.

New manager bounce, Tottenham without an away win in the League for best part of a year and Roberto in goal means I just can't go into this game expecting anything. Wish I could say I don't care.

Think he has to play Roberto.

What if he drops Roberto and then Martin makes a clanger in this game? Who do we play next week at Chelsea?

Roberto owes his manager, his teamates and us the fans a performance... if he doesn't deliver tomorrow, then fair enough he needs to be dropped.

What we need is to get behind him... not the ironic cheers he was getting at Burnley when he made a save or took a simple catch after his error. It's a bit muggy and not West Ham

never have i looked forward to a spurs match less than this one . we need anderson to really spark and get good delivery to haller . we need roberto to actually play like a goalkeeper ( thats if he plays ) and the other 8 to be ready to die for the club on the pitch . there will be so much TV scrutiny on this match after this week , that if it really goes pear shaped for MP , this could be his last game

I think we got that admiration for going unbeaten at home that last season and playing some excellent football and then the fear started.

Before that we weren't liked and we weren't feared, we were "lads, it Tottenham". We were viewed as soft; easy to feel sorry for and this allowed some of our great football to be admired.

I want teams to fear us again, and hate us, but primarily fear us!!

Spurs mocked relentlessly by rival fans for not winning trophies
Spurs hire manager known for winning trophies
Bad decision, he's gonna destroy your team blah blah

This seems to be the narrative at the moment although people are intrigued to see how it will work out but I just know that they're going to pounce the moment it goes tits up.

It's funny I had this convo with two of my mates (Arsenal and Liverpool) in a Whats App group last week and said that we should be going for Jose, they scoffed at the mere suggestion, belittled Spurs saying that he's far too big for you, he wants money and Levy would never give him what he wants, basically I got shot down.

Cue Wednesday morning, backhanded compliments, sly digs etc...

Even now...he only took the job because there was nothing else available :D

Man United fan at work keeps sloping round to my desk trying to wind me up that I'm positive about Mourinho. Didn't like it when I said imagine what Mourinho could do with Kane in his team as he is better than Drogba. Also didn't like it when I said we are probably being bank rolled by Jeff Bezos now.

Everyone in my pub was rather quiet about it yesterday. A couple of attempted jibes from a Chelsea fan but the scousers and United fans kept pretty quiet.
One of my fellow yids popped in briefly and judging by the fact we had a massive hug, I'd say she's both sad about Poch but excited about Mourinho - the last time we embraced was the Ajax game.
The place was pretty quiet, being a Thursday night, so I'm looking forward to seeing a few more responses on Saturday.
If I'm still sober enough to remember!
