Just read that ajax have the weekend off before they play us.... They've postponed all the Dutch league fixtures.

The Dutch league have helped them out before by postponing a game. I'm pretty sure the Premiership would want us to play the day before and maybe another game on match day afternoon. Also give the scousers a week off.

Wanna back that up with something?
Yeh photo comes from Andrew Yates/Reuters was published in the Guardian minute by minute.

It's a legit photo. That doesn't mean it's a handball. As was mentioned we got one super quick replay of the incident from a bad angle and then moved. I assume it it his shoulder first and then deflected up into his arm. In any case with all these details going into it too deeply means every incident becomes controversial.

They checked the City handball during the game. Because they want(ed) them to win the quad, they spent all of half a second before deciding "no penalty" and play carried on.
It was no less of a hand ball than Roses' and much more so than Llorente's

My good Dutch friend , massive Ajax fan and very knowledgeable thinks they are set up and play much better away from home against top opposition. 1-0 in the first leg would be a fantastic result. We can definitely score there.

It's true, but it's not a result of luck. It's a direct result of Pochettino's focus on character when selecting which new players to sign - and which ones to let pass. It's also a result of his ability to decide when and by what stages to integrate young players into the first team.

We have players of varying degrees of quality, but we don't have any passengers.
With regards to the character thing. I read a quote from Verts where he spoke about the aftermath of the sterling goal. He said that nobody knew it was offside and when he saw everybody deflated he said "there's like 2 or 3 minutes left, let's get the game restarted, put the ball in the box and see what happens". That is why we never know when we are beaten. We have characters in the squad who are driven to win and never give up. We lose, we go again, we win, we go again.

As son said the other night when asked about having to play city 3 days later, "thats ok, we will come and do it again!"

They certainly seem happy to be playing us, but hey, hasn't every team we've faced so far in the CL been :ROFLMAO:

Is there an argument that they might play better when the pressure is off a bit? As in away from home? I'm not sure as I've only seen them in bits but they lost to Madrid at home and only managed a draw at home to Juventus whilst turning them both over at their own grounds. Although in saying that I think I remember people saying they played really well in that home leg against Madrid.
They managed to beat Benfica just 1-0 at home in the group stages due to a 92nd minute winner and the only team they've beaten comprehensively at home in the champions league this year was against AEK Athens. In fact AEK and Benfica are the only sides they've managed to beat at home at all.

I'm not trying to downplay them, more so trying to give myself mental encouragement! But it may give me more hope that we can go to their ground and get the right result if we get a positive result at home ourselves.

A few from Bluemoon, the first one cracked me up :ROFLMAO:

I've been like this all day.

Some idiots in our fanbase if you are blaming VAR getting decisions right for us going out.

Children.

Great game and we lost.

Pep now needs to take a long look at the first leg because he screwed it.

At the end of the game last night, I turned to the guy next to me and simply said I feel so proud to be a blue and so fortunate to witness such a terrific game. Yes, the result stings, but with a game coming up so soon afterwards, our focus should be forwards, not back imo

I'm level with the goal area line. Clear and fuckin' obvious that the guy was offside. Shouldn't have been an issue for the lino. Why, when Son goes for the ball, clearly and obviously interfering with play we don't get an immediate flag as we were getting from the lino on the other side, particularly in the second half, whenever we crept offside! VAR is used selectively in the CL and it clearly and obviously doesn't reflect what actually happened. Haringey benefit from an offside position which should have been flagged and wasn't and then go on to score. We score, don't get flagged, but the goal is chalked off. It's an incredible state of affairs and I can only think that the more Uefa fuck about with VAR it's gonna get worse and not better.

He wasn’t offside. In fact it wasn’t even close, Walker the usual culprit played him on by a good two yards.

The absolute destruction of these tomorrow is what’s needed, cmon city

i think Utd will show us their belly come the derby day.

Spurs is the match we need to win to win the league... i know there's still a little way to go, but we beat Spurs on Saturday and i think the job is done.

Without the focus of CL, we can just get the job done. The Champions League is the biggest hurdle for any team.

But the rest of the season is City Blue :)

Spurs celebrating the greatest game in their history. A game they lost.

Why wouldn't they celebrate? They won over 2 legs against a side that most neutrals thought would batter them.
I would celebrate too

Thing is we cant even blame injuries we had a fully fit squad except Zinchenko maybe.

They had Kane out and then Sissoko got injured first half also Alli played with some broken finger or arm.

We ripped them apart so well in the PL game at Wembley earlier. I wish the CL game was at Wembley too imo it could have been a help for us instead of a complete new stadium which was rocking as their first huge game in that stadium.

totally agree about the new stadium tbh I think they planned it that way, brand spanking new stadium for the Quarters... Perfect. It certainly played into the whole load of bad luck we have had aroun d this tie in the last few seasons. Nonetheless we're there, we will get the luck some time.

They have been vying for the league lead. Obviously the two best teams in their league, so worth comparing our performance against PSV against the prospect of Ajax.

These games are all complete one offs. I wouldn't pay any attention to home Leagues, form or reputation. Anything can happen.

Lose 4-3? No thanks.

But using the PSV match as a barometer for how good Ajax are is a total non starter.
