We need better songs

My seat is up near the away fans and I must say I had the exact same thought last night. Palace had loads of different songs, could'nt make out the words but they all seemed like good fun to sing.

We have some good songs but a lot of our stuff is not easy to to keep it going. COYS is obviously great but it is tricky and always dies a death when the fast part starts. I love being a yid but I always get the impression that there is a material contingent of people who don't like singing yid songs (for the record f*ck them but it does have an impact on numbers singing). Mario Pochetinno is fucking hard to sing. It is not a good chant imo.

It's not surprise that We've got Alli often keeps going the longest and is prob the most popular (with COYS). It is easy to sing, enjoyable and doesn't get boring after the first go but we need more songs in this mould about the club in general.

Also a fan of the drums. At the the very least it acts like a conductor of sorts who ensures things keep going. But yeah, we need better songs.

But one step at a time, new stadium was about 10 billion times better than Wembley atmo wise.

I think people thought the atmosphere was built into the ground. The ground is an instrument. And instrument generally don’t make noise unless someone plays them. I’d like to hear the drum back. It did actually work back in the day. And an endless drone would be better than endless silence but the middle ground is that we sing. I think it was nerves last night. But we’re Spurs fans, we’re always nervous until we’re at least 4 goals ahead. That needs to stop being an excuse anymore. Every game should be treated like an away game now. Away fans are the best because they’ve built their day around a match, travelling, eating, drinking, supporting, singing. We have a venue which allows each game to be an occasion. I don’t know about you but I want to see what we can achieve in this stadium with regards to atmosphere and I don’t want to wait until we play Arsenal to do it. Last night wasn’t good enough from the fans. First night stage fright? Fine, don’t let it happen again.
I completely agree. The drum needs to return, there's plenty of space at the top of the stand I understand. Also we need to get a group together, like the 1882 group, and make sure they sit together to get things going. We need organisation.

Palace do that in that corner, they have a group of "ultras" style fans that just sing. It's good. And they get the rest going too. We cannot let this wonderful stadium go to waste with wanky support.

Maybe it is just me but I thought that we were just all taking in the full ground, sampling the unique atmosphere of an opening and quite frankly the opposition didn't need us to get fired up. The test of singing, atmosphere will be next week against City; which I expect to be several notches up on last night

Palace didn’t have loads of songs ?

They had a ten minute of hodgeson army and then a continuing drone of a drum they just clapped too that make it seem like they are loud.

Then they did a couple of lower league side chants and let a flare off.

There support is no different to any other premier league team.

I wholeheartedly disagree about the drum it is boring and monotonous. Both the Dortmund game and the Palace game have left me with a continuous loop of boring drum beat going around my head still this morning. That said. I have been near the away section at both Wembley and NWHL. The accoustics at the new ground means the drummer sounds like he is sitting In the row behind me.

I did like their Andros song , but yeah they were no different to any travelling EPL fans.

Palace have a great support home and away, albeit the home ultras thing has been muted a bit by politics. But whether it’s them or any other club, the away support is always going to be great at the new ground as we have delivered an experience and away fans are looking forward to sampling it. I spoke to a couple of Palace fans last night and they couldn’t really think of anything else other than the bottom up beer glasses.

Not a fan of drummers at football matches. Reminds me too much of European football where it just becomes a drone of noise after a while.

Drone of noise over long silences all day.

I'm sure a drummer or band would get everyone going, it doesn't have to be a constant boring tune ala most european Ultras.

I hope i'm wrong, but I don't think our new stadium is going to have the atmosphere we all thought at alot of games ,except the really big games, too many boring fans all over the gaff...lets stop kidding ourselves, too many of our fans just sit there like manikins.

I’ve said before that the lifestyles and cultures of Eastern Europe and the UK are just too different to match atmospheres. I don’t think we should try to. We’ve all had great nights watching Spurs and it has an atmosphere of its own. The only problem as you say is that people just can’t be bothered.

The key is organisation, not just a drum. You need a (big) group of people sat together who start the songs and keep them going. At Boca they sing each song non-stop for a good ten minutes and the crowd can therefore sing non-stop for the whole game. But even with 'Latin passion' it still takes huge organisation to get and keep it going. To get 17 000 singing non-stop in the South stand will take 50 people together starting up the tunes in the middle and 'lieutenants' up and down each side pitching in immediately and inspiring those around them. Organisation doesn't take away the passion and organic-ness, it develops it. And I humbly offer my sig as a new song which can be sung over and over...

A few years ago there was talk of the 1882 group having a section in the south stand, what happened to that?
They use to turn up at europa league 'unbearable' matches and still create an atmosphere.

Get Ossie a drum and Ricky a trumpet and stick them in the Park Lane :D

I'd love us to have our own version of Allez, Allez, Allez. I know it's an adopted Liverpool song but it's a great one. Have really fond drunken memories of singing it at the Ryder Cup back in September.

Jimmy was our hero
Now Harry is our boy
With Hugo as our captain
We'll win the f*cking lot

ALLEZ, ALLEZ, ALLEZ, ALLEZ

Or something to that effect.

They didn’t implement it with the new south stand because they were too busy charging a couple of grand for the seats.

I watched from the comfort of my armchair (fake Spud), but I literally heard the Palace fans once.

Their "atmosphere" is the biggest myth in football. They sound like the sand people from Star Wars and they're not even that loud. Used to go to Palace all the time when I was a yoot as I live near there, was average - but they perpetuate the notion of "outsinging" everybody as it's the only thing that can ever cling on to.

I think you’ve got to give credit where credits due. The palace fans are great, and so are the fans at Anfield.

WHL was a special atmosphere, and I think it’s going to take us a while before we really get that constant energy bedded in at the new stadium.

I think being at Wembley for a couple of years might have taken the collective fire out of us a little, but we’ll get it back now.

WHL was great when it was rocking, but let's not kid ourselves, the crowd could be very quiet during some periods too. West Stand would never sing for love nor money, Paxton got a lot quieter when it became a family stand.

When it comes down to it, the prices at Spurs make for a pretty old demographic, who tend not to get as trollied as the younger fans out for a jolly and a singsong.
