I think it’s pretty clear CF signing is linked to Richy.

He goes to Saudi and we move for a Gyokeres or Solanke with the money we get in..

He stays and at most we’ll throw a £25m bid late in the window for David or test Brentford’s resolve for Toney with a low ball £30m offer, also last week or so of the window.

Yeah, I'm sure more names would emerge but I agree with you that to me it seems that the ST position could be the more "opportunistic" one that happens as dominoes fall throughout the window.

It seems we're very focused on getting a winger, CAM, LB or even possibly another CM in before a ST at this rate and maybe the thinking is that someone will be available on a "deal" near deadline day.

I believe Paul O’keef said he was on a list of potential strikers we are looking at.
Hmm I guess what I'd love to know (but never will) is are we looking at them in the way I might look at villas in the south of France (that'd be nice and maybe one day if the stars align) or are they realistic options that we would actually pay for and be able to get.

Feels like we are "looking at" loads of players, but how many could we realistically end up with?

O'Keefe gets some sort of kick out of posting ITK I assume, aggregators and the media need the clicks to generate revenue, but trying to work out what might be reliable is the game.

Absolutely, but difficult to know (and I promise I'm not fishing here) how much weight to give it.

Whilst we aren't quite Chelsea, we do seem to be "interested" in quite a lot of players.

I usually don't get particularly invested, but really think we need better options up front than a seemingly never fit Richi, shoehorning in Son or the kids and this guy does actually look decent.

I'd wager Rob wouldn't start a new thread on him if it wasn't anything substantial. My bet is that it is linked to Richy - if he stays, we won't hear anything more about Gyökeres.

Yep, to be fair, he's never getting those 30 seconds back! :cautious:

Thinking there's been development here only to find 5 pages about players we could have gotten early and players we did get early...

Not going to get at all invested at this point as I suspect this is only a goer if Richy goes off to Saudi Arabia. Given he’s flown out to Japan with the squad on tour, this can’t be close.
We can drop him off on the way back when we refuel?

I love strikers that can powerfully strike a placed shot with the inside of their foot and he definitely can! He looks like a strong player, who's fast, skillful, can hold the ball up, presses from the front and obviously knows where the back of the net is. I love Richy, but if we get a good offer money wise from Saudi then I feel we should accept and put that money towards trying to sign Gyokeres. He looks absolutely perfect for Anges system.

Thank you for very interesting reads (this, and the Ange/Gallagher post you linked to), really appreciated and loved them both!

I know it might just be semantics, but I don´t agree with the "never want to defend" approach. At all. I´d claim it is very much about defending - but in a very different way than the Conte/Mourinho-style. Or Southgate with England for that matter.

Agreed; Postecoglou will never want his team to sit back and defend with a deep line around their own box. As you say, he is all about a high line, over crowding the midfield, minimizing the distances between our lines, and above all else a high press and with that a high volume of winning/regaining the ball in the opponent´s half. And preferably in the final third (or quarter).

Postecoglou has time and time again talked about the ball always moving forward, how he wants his team to attack. I do get the feeling that he isn´t overly excited about keeping the ball just for the sake of it, tiki-taka-ing it around for ages - I sense that he wants more tempo and more aggressiveness.

I understand Postecoglou´s philosophy to be in a way a mix of Klopp´s Liverpool at it´s best, and Pep´s Man City. The former concentrating of high pressing and above all moving the ball (and team) as fast as possible straight forward with as little horisontal passing as possible. And the latter with it´s fluid positions, the extreme high press at times, the focus on always having the ball and never let the other team rest with the ball.

I don´t believe we are much in disagreement - not at all. It´s more about the choice of words perhaps? You say we don´t want to defend, I say we defend but in a different way than most think of "defending". Front foot, positive defending maybe? In many ways it is defending by attacking.

PS
For those who know ice hockey, the word forechecking comes to mind. Which is about pressing the other team when they have the puck. You could start the forechecking on your defensive or offensive blue line, or even deep in the opponent´s zone. Opposed to drop back and make a box around your own goal, crowding a small space and making it extremely difficult for the other team to get shots and scoring chances. The latter is Conte/Mourinho - the former is much more fun to watch.

"For those who know ice hockey, the word forechecking comes to mind."

That brought bad a few memories of my eldest brother. He used to play for Harringay Racers back in the late 50'/early 60s.
Great sport to watch but I didn't want to play it though.

Hat trick?! Nice finish for Sporting's 2nd goal but the other two goals weren't his. Not a remark on the player but we can rely less and less on what we read...
Actually watched the video to the end after the reply... he looks to be limping heavily. Hopefully it's just part of the process building back strength post-injury but concerning.

Mate, this video is from four months ago. Romano is referring to a friendly played behind closed doors.

Stop spreading fake news ;)

No, actually the opposite. What humanity is in dire need of is reading skills, comprehension and the ability to think for ourselves.

Can we not just for once act like we are actually ambitious to move forward? Should we really need to sell Richarlison to bring in a striker of this calibre? Why can't we own both of them, and, you know, have a strong option off the bench, like top teams do? I get that there's an element of realism/conditioning involved, but why can't we make a statement and massively strengthen our striking options.
We are getting rinsed year after year with ever-increasing ticket prices, charged £85 for a shirt (I know, I know, Nike blah blah) and have a stadium which is raking money in hosting events. Are we scared to take that final push into the true elite of this league, in case it doesn't work out, or there's not ROI?

We had a net spend of around 150m the year we sold Kane...

I don’t want to go into net spend game - after all this also includes Porro & Kulu valuation in it.

Kane money is pure profit on table now for club + saving 200k a week of wages.

I don’t care Kane replacement is 10m fee but we need proper one who can score 7/10 chances atleast. It’s been a season now, we don’t have a genuine no9.
