Could've signed Gyokeres for £20m, now potentially paying 3-4 times that. Could've signed Maddison for £20m, paid £40m. Could've signed Eze for £20m, now potentially paying £60m. We need to be better at taking risks early, we waste so much money paying the middle clubs.

It's not just us, that's football.
It's like we've never picked up players for good prices, like Dele, Bale, Eriksen, Keano, Modders, Berbatov, Sonny, etc, etc.

Why do we always have to complain about players we've "missed out on"?

So we haven't returned to it. In fact, if anything, we've returned to signing the standouts in the championship.

You've also moaned about not signing players from the championship and then when brentford are also heavily linked, these player's arent good enough? Make your mind up

Usually yes but give me sport ran an article a few days ago, linking us to him. So its hard to work out if it was that link or a BTS ITK link.

To be fair though, we once looked at Rivaldo, Papin and Zidane.
I’ve seen similar notions quoted about players in the last few months now going to PSG United and Bayern.
If it’s taken this long for us to look at them and then try to do a deal, it’s likely they’ve been talking to agents and clubs much earlier and unless miraculously they do t want to go elsewhere for more money and Champions League football, they won’t be signing for us.

Agreed. Further more you have to consider the development a player has had playing for a lower-tier club.

It’s perfeclty plausible Eze wouldn’t have been the same player he is today if we would have signed him when he played well for QPR. He has had time to mature while playing first team football and being the focal point of Crystal Palace.

Yup, that would be pretty much near a £180m outlay.

Not impossible, but I agree it seems unlikely.

My bet would be on a cheaper striker like Jonathan David.

Plus the wages, signing on fees etc for all three would be top dollar. That is the one advantage of buying players like Beana, Doué, Gray etc is that whilst the initial fee is still large the contracts will be considerably smaller in comparison.

To be honest I actually think there’s a pretty good chance he ends up here.

1. Thread seemed to be created based on background ITK - likely sensitive stuff with the lack of context
2. Richy potentially moving to Saudi for +-60M
3. Gyökeres release clause 80M but likely obtainable in 65-75M region, making this ‘swap’ a net outlay of ~10M
4. With his background and current club, a move to Spurs would definitely be a reasonable step up that is also intriguing to the player.

All in all, a lot of if’s and I may be completely wrong, but I could see this being worked on and triggered if Richy is finally sold.
