Could've signed Gyokeres for £20m, now potentially paying 3-4 times that. Could've signed Maddison for £20m, paid £40m. Could've signed Eze for £20m, now potentially paying £60m. We need to be better at taking risks early, we waste so much money paying the middle clubs.
This is far too simplistic an argument. Does Maddison develop into the same player if he doesn’t go to Leicester and get first team football? Does Eze if he doesn’t go and play week in week out at Palace?

I doubt it, and I can’t blame them for wanting to go somewhere where they’ll be almost guaranteed starting positions.

Exactly,far too simplistic.

And lets not forget that when Gyokeres was available for £20m, Harry Kane was our striker - absolutely no chance Gyokeres gets a look in, therefor unlikely he develops into the player he is now.

If the link is true , i don't see anything wrong in letting these type of 'not quite ready yet' players go elsewhere, develop, and then sign them for more money later on....IF the current transfer fee is still considered value, and if you have the capacity to do so.

Could’ve signed Gift Orban, Berahino…

I wanted Gyokeres at the time as he’s very similar to a younger Kane but hindsight is 20/20

He does look to be an upgrade on Richarlison from the video clips at least. Not too sure what he's like in the air though as Richy is brilliant at getting his head to crosses.

Do you mean buying players like Bergvalt, Gray, Veliz, Phillips and Vuskovic?

80m is just a release fee and those can often be exaggerated to protect the club. That doesn't mean they won't accept less down the line. If we could get him around Eze money instead we may prefer that with not having to pay all in one go. 60-65m would be difficult for Sporting to turn down I think. We may even be looking 60m rising to 70m which spread across a 5 year contract could be more favourable than Eze. Especially if he's on less wages.

Seems a huge risk for the prices being quoted. If it was £30 million he’d be worth a go but not at £80m plus. Insanity.

We are not going to pick up a prolific goal scoring forward for 30 million mate.

Dream on.

We paid 60 million five years ago for a midfielder, times and transfer fees have moved on since then.

Has there actually been any credible links to suggest that we are actually thinking of making a move for him?

Can only see this happening if we sell Richy and even then, we'll still need to convince Viktor's Portuguese girlfriend that she's nothing to fear from Viktor coming to a club where his ex (Amanda Nilden) plays.
Surprisingly and shockingly, Amanda Nildén looks even better than myself in a Spurs shirt?! 😳🤯

I'd rather take a calculated punt on someone doing well in the Championship than hack around in Latin America

Sadly we've only just returned to the broader strategy you allude to
