If we were to get Toby Alderweireld, would that make Jan stay and play better?

IMO, centre back is a key issue for us this summer. Dawson is looking past his best & likely to go, Kaboul is unlikely to be a constant for us due to injury and Vlad is still raw and learning.

If Vertonghen has his head turned by Barca, we could be in a bit of trouble.

All successful teams, certainly in England, have a formidable centre back pairing and we really struggled in this area last year, not helped by an irrational obsession with a high line.

Really do think this is Poch's first big test.

There's no questioning his talent. It's his attitude which is a problem. The way he behaved last season just tells me that I wouldn't be too upset about him leaving. At this point in time we're desperately crying out for players who have that sufficient combination of loyalty and skill to take us forward. If he's not willing to offer that then I wouldn't be too upset about getting a tidy sum for him while we still can.

Even if he stays, we would still need a top CB.
Dawson is not good enough to be in the first team and may likely leave during this window.
We don't really know whether Kaboul will have recovered from his recent injury spell.

If we sell Verts, we would need to buy two top CBs.
It would be very difficult, if at all possible, to buy two top rated CBs, who
are willing to come to us, at prices approved/accepted by Levy.

I'll probably be bashed for this, but we could've got one already, and he is also an excellent LB, and he would've been free! ... I honestly think we've missed a trick by not making a move for Lescott. I'm also sure that, if we did make a move, we'd be his preferred choice, in comparison to other clubs rumoured to be interested in him. Seriously, Hull City, Stoke City, WBA or THFC?
