Jan Vertonghen believes Mauricio Pochettino was a victim of his own success at Tottenham and says all the players feel responsible for the Argentine’s sacking.

Admirable but alas it all comes down to Poch not being able to set them up for success and not utilising the players to the best of their abilities.

It's all a bit rich, saying this now.

The transformation of the players is remarkable.

Dele has completely upped his game ( 3 MOM performances on the spin), where were these performances before?

The players cost Poch his job

It's not just a case of Dele upping his game is it. He's being played in the no 10 position with licence, he also has Toby driving long balls up to him. These things weren't happening under Poch of late.

To be fair Dele’s performances were trending upwards under Pochettino as well. Ultimately I blame neither the players nor Poch but Levy for not refreshing the squad - Ferguson used to say you need to refresh your squad every 4 years or things go stale and that’s exactly what happened to us. Once it happened though the only remedy is to change the manager

I'd love a job like that.

Simply refuse to perform for my boss, get them the sack, then start doing what I'm paid to do cause I like the new guy.

It really is a dream job.

I don’t think it’s that simple lol.

Poch did give impression he was kinda just throwing out sides and wishing for the best near the end and if he’s not giving them tactical direction / being moody at training ground (as reported by number of people) then it’s not conducive to a good working place.

Vertonghen is right that they got Poch the sack, but that is often the case and new manager bounces are common enough. Things were never that bad - had we beaten Everton and Sheff Utd rather than drawn he'd still be here. Two wins against West Ham and Bournemouth have us up to fifth. There was a staleness about our season under Poch, but he'd earned more of a chance to turn that around, and it doesn't take much to achieve that.

There is something to be said for putting square pegs and square holes, which Mourinho has done so far, mainly with Alli as the number 10 and someone pacey (Moura/Sissoko) on the right of the attacking 3.
