Fair enough. His attitude in the tunnel at anfield last year and then limping off 'injured' within the first 10 mins really pissed me off. He's one of a few that owes us a big season!

Plops article. Gives no reason why he was 'omitted', simply that he wasn't made club or vice captain. 20 other players weren't either - were they shunned?

"Having only taken over the Spurs squad in the summer, Pochettino canvassed the opinion of his players on who would be best captain and vice captains."
Perhaps he canvassed the opinion of the players when he sold Daws, Sandro, Sigurdsson and Holtby too, given he'd only taken over in the summer....

Or perhaps their is another reason why he overlooked Vertonghen.

How close is this Matt Law to Mopo? Do they just talk on facebook once a month or are they more whatsapp buddies on a daily basis? Just wonder how he could know this stuff.

Doesn't need MoPo. The journos tend to have certain players or player's agents that feed them info. In return, they write favourably or are not as critical about these players and in some cases managers (just ask HR). They can also help these guys bury stories they don't want splashed all over the papers.

If true, then it is interesting that it was not just the fans perception that Jan's attitude was off last season.

It just confirms to me the sort of attitude Vertonghen has... he probably thinks he is better than he actually is but the facts don't lie last season with Vertonghen in defence we suffered some severe beatings.

I imagine it wasn't based exclusively on player opinions. There were probably other factors involved, but Poch just wanted to get a feel from the squad, after all, they're the ones the captain needs to have respect from.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I knew he wasn't right for the job when he didn't play along with Walker/Sandro's Halloween photo shoot prank.

Kaboul is a good choice, and of course Lloris as VC. I also like Ade as VC -- it's a motivator and confidence boost, and when he's motivated and loved he's really fucking good.

For some reason this made me think of a Bowie song.
I'm guessing Space Oddity?
