What kinda of twisted logic is Levy actually applying if we actually bought Sissoko for £18 million.

We could have had Arshavin, a proven performer at the highest level, for around 18 million last summer yet we didnt seem to want to go above 16 million IRC.

One could argue that Sissoko will have a sell on value but seriously, are we not trying to building a winning team? Flogging off our stars once they mature will not get us to the promise land.

Selling Jenas is not what I consider one of our stars. He has had long enough to display real quality and all we get is glimpses of it. I like Jenas, so this is not a pop at him. But I think sell him to Villa and bring the young lad in for whatever is required.
I agree re, Arshavin, we should have got that done.

The Keane wages thing is a bit odd isn't it ? If we've only just signed him (new contract 3/4/5 years can't remember) then how can we possibly get him to take a wage drop. Sounds nonsense.

And wasn't it this thread where the ITK was that Keane will play on Wed because of his effort on Sunday.

It's folly to think that Keane will put in two good performances on consecutive games.

I had a ratty exchange with The Management about this the other day. Apparently, the edit button has been disabled in the ITK thread, so people do not edit the ITK. I'm not 100% clear on why this should be a problem, but you'll find the edit button still functioning in the rest of the forum.

Except that this isn't what happened. As it says in several places elsewhere on this site, even in a post today on another thread, we had a £20m+ instalments deal agreed with Zenit for Arshavin, only for them to demand, at the last minute, that it all be paid up front. That was not the first, nor even the second time that they had moved the goalposts during a Summer-long negotiation. But it was the last straw.

Sisssoko is abs genius.... lets not lose a chance at another young star in the making. Sometimes I think we are too conservative in purchases. In lieu of young foreign stars we overpay for 'sure things' like Bent(and)ley - two players who have proved that 'premiership proven' is not everything.

On a related (positional) note, I am appalled we did not move to sign Lorik Cana last month. He went to Sunderland for a piddling 5 mill. At the end of the season or next he will end up at Arsenal or Villa for 2X that. (Admittedly, an opinion I am stating as fact :) ) He was brilliant in his debut for them.

Agreed, surprised a bigger club didn't go in for him and that Marseille were prepared to sell him for relatively little. Maybe there's personal issues there, but him & Palacios in centre mid would be frightening.

I'm happy for us to persist with the Hudd for now though

I've posted this alleged info about Keane's ridiculous wages before:

From then on it was only a formality that the two clubs should agree a fee, the main sticking point being Keane's wages which were doubled from £45k to £90k when he moved to Anfield. Liverpool are believed to have given in to Spurs demands to pay a portion of Keane's wages. He is understood to have taken a drop in wages to £70k per week with Liverpool picking up £20k.

The downside of our £6 million fee for loaning Keane to the scousers was that they doubled his wages, and we've been trying to deal with the consequences ever since....

I suspected something along those lines, and it seems very plausible.
Also, perhaps the deal with Liverpool was till end of last season only, bringing his wages down to 70k pw, which would not go well with Keane now. Although even that would make Keane one of the highest earners (probably along King and Defoe) at the club.
I also suspect there was some kind of guarantee from Harry to Keane about a place in the 1st team when fit. Thus making him the Captain and the pronouncements about how "important for the team" he is...
