Benoit Assou Ekotto, YP Lee and Danny Rose. Love me a solid LB

Loved Assou-Ekotto. Was seen as a bit of a joke amongst rival fans but he was a decent left-back both going forward and in defence, scored some cracking goals for us and a top character who openly hated football. Legend.

Realised I could have just described Danny Rose as well.

Freddy Kanoute, didn't score that many but was absoloute class, the ball stuck to his feet.

That old spurs midfield of Ziege, Redknapp, Freund and Anderton was quality when they were all fit (which was never).... Also Redknapp was in general an underrated footballer, a terrible pundit, but a very silky footballer. (Again, when fit)

"old" is the key word in that sentence - we also had Sheringham, Ferdinand and Poyet in attack together at the same time. If we'd had that squad when they were five years younger we'd have had a bloody good side.

He was a very good footballer, and was very reliable, even with the Cruyff turns in his own corner. That quenelle shite ruined his rep for me though.

At times under Hoddle when fit those 5-6 combining played some of the best football we’d see at the Lane for many a year, trouble was they couldn’t stay fit and their legs would go after 60 mins so we left huge gaps but as you say if we’d got a lot of them 5-6 years younger Hoddle could’ve really made something special with that squad.

Dean Richards RIP unsung hero? Seemed like when we signed him he was the next big thing at CB in English football and on his day was a very good defender just not fit enough or performing consistently enough and was part of a fairly dross spurs squad.

Clive Allen? 49 goals one season but maybe not enough respect put on his name. Also just absolutely lovely bloke when I’ve met him and proper Spurs legend.

Don't know if they qualify us unsung but M Hazard, G. Roberts, C. Houghton, from that era, were all players I loved. And let's not forget Ralph Coates.

The sort of player who you only appreciate how much better he made the team when he isn't there. Same with Carrick

Vinny Samways. 20 year playing career, nearly 200 appearances for us and an FA cup winner (also later with Everton). Had a 'second' career in Spainish football, making 160 appearances for Sevilla.

Loved his style; always busy and a great touch.

Tarrico, Hazard, Dembele (yes, was overlooked), Bale, Kane, Son ... the list is endless.

Not quite an unsung hero but Rebrov was not a total flop and was actually quite handy under Graham. Hoddle just didn’t really use him.

Mido is also sometimes considered a flop but was very good initially. After he signed permanently he didn’t seem fit and then Berbatov signed so it was never going to happen for him after that.

Great to hear Ziege mentioned as as well as a great free kick taker he had a great cross on him which was something we lacked at the time for a while down the left and was quite exciting to see. Lee Young Pyo is my pick for having to cover our entire left flank despite being right footed. At the time it felt we were always one tool missing from competing at the very top. There was always one position missing. We also had the odd inexplicable enigmas for very short bursts such as Atouba and Dalmat but ultimately can only be classified as utter disappointments.

Slightly off topic, but Hoddle as our manager not getting enough credit. I still think of him as the one who got us back to passing and managing to string more that 2-3 passes together, He started the ball rolling back to how we wanted to play after Graham. We got a bit of a dad's army together but it started to become enjoyable to watch. It was a slow work in progress since then.

Christ takes me back to my Yoof in the late 70s/80s struggling to get out of Div 2. History of our club, many were average but they all cared. Now don’t get me started on Alfie Conn, Neil McNabb , Peter Taylor etc. COYS

Espen Baardsen. Came in for Walker's injuries and was excellent.

Atouba. Couldn't work out if he was a professional or on a wind up. One week turd, next week he would be doing these bizarre Brazilian feints, nutmegs and dummies. Scored a worldie at St James Park too

Any of the lads that came in during the Santin/Jol era really. Whole new team, whole new mindset, it's them who put us where we are today. We went from a laughing stock to people taking notice.
