On this forum the former thankfully isn't an unpopular opinion, it's been brought up so many times. Unfortunately those who frequent this site are just a small percentage of those who go to games. The ‘You’re fucking shit’ and ‘Arsenal fan on a string’ songs make me feel ashamed to be a fan of the club, and embarrassed to be associated with the fans that sing them.
I think people who talk about the good old days of firms and fighting are knuckle-dragging pond life. Angry simpletons that should be behind bars for the safety of more evolved humans.
As for the latter, completely agree. I had a mate when I grew up (not a Spurs fan) who was always a bit of a lad but didn't appear to have a violent bone in his body. About five years ago he got involved in all kinds of firm-y shenanigans and fights both here in Norway and in the UK and he has recently served a several year ban from football grounds in the UK. When I ask him why the hell he does it, he just replies "it's fun". Why is it fun? "Dunno, just is". This man has two kids as well FFS.
