But spending £30m on Keane and Defoe who can never play on the pitch at the same time?! I just wish there'd been some thought and strategy to our purchases, rather than panicing so much.

Like we had in the summer, you mean?

We're in this situation because of the ludicrously overhyped Ramos' bungling. He got all but two of the players he wanted—this according to you—and then didn't know what to do with them. Your trying to divert criticism from and excuse his manifest failings by taking incessant pots at Redknapp is getting thoroughly tiresome.

I really don't see what the problem is -
we now have plenty of options in goal,in defence,in midfield and attack - what more can we ask for?
We have brought in 5 Premiership players, seriously if Aston Villa or Everton just had the window we had they would be cheering from the rooftops of Birmingham and Liverpool!
Some people on here really do need to grow up.

Absolutely right. We all knew our weaknesses, and by and large they have been strengthened with the signings of proven players. Most clubs would be over the moon with that lot, and any club in a relegation battle would see the acquisition of these players as a great achievement. We've lacked winners so we brought in players who have achieved, and some have even tasted success in our colours.

We now have practically all the 5th place finishers back. So they should be good enough to avoid relegation! Where does it say we have signed any of these "short term"?

Yes we have the 5th place finishers, but we also had the big man.Agree with D Ashcroft could have better quality

Really? I sometimes wonder what sort of alternative reality you inhabit. Probably the one in which Ramos is a 'world-class' manager.

There's probably a very good reason we didn't go for Zog on the Tyne, and as for Quaresma, do me a favour. An erratic show pony who's been a total failure outside the Portuguese league? Just what we need. Not. (Bet he's good on FM, though.) A Brazilian nut job? (Take your pick.) Arshavin? (As if.)

Some people seriously need to get real.

what bubble do some people live in?? underwhelming? we were the 2nd biggest spenders in the window no? 2 £12mill deals and a £15mil deal.

Not only that but we added PL experienced players meaning no "time to adapt" bollocks.

Im delighted, we can get stuffed by the red shits on sunday and id still be very optomistic that we had an excellent window and have a good enough squad to stay up and finish in the top 8.

you know its peope like this is the reason we get ridiculed so much - get back to reality!

I just love how there are some who equate "high calibre" players with essentially being foreign and technical. Its that kind of thinking that that has meant we haven't even been in the top half of the table for 18 months (since we finished 5th). Yet we still get moans that we should still be trying to get into the Champions League, it is laughable

Yeah lets sign Arshvain, Inler, Quaresema etc etc etc..... A bunch of players like that would still get done by Kevin Davies at Bolton, we would still be callow, and still have a schitzophrenic dressing room that loves mixing it in the big games, but is afraid to roll their sleeves up and battle for points.

We gutted our dressing of the small amount of character it had, Ramos got rid of stout pros like Tainio, Lee, and Steed, sold our only real quality in Berbs and our club leader in Keane, what we were left with was a shambles.

All the signings we have made in this window improve the squad, yes there is more that could have been done, but considering we don't have Gulf backers with deep pockets, I think the action that Levy has taken such be applauded to the hilt.

We need to start from scratch, We need Keane and Pav to form a partnership quickly. We need Chimbonda to do what he did when coming on at Bolton for the rest of his career here, we need Palacios to start making the centre of the pitch at WHL an uncomfortable place to for opposition midfielders, and we need Cudicini to provide solid competiion for Gomes.

Its going to be a slow process, and it will take time to instill the right mentality to the side again. I am not sure if Redknapp will be the one who can take us all the way, but i still have hope that we will move the right way.

We have a decent keeper and defence now - still bad at set pieces but we should not concede over 2 goals/game tops.

We now have an attack that should have 30-40 goals/season in them. Still nowhere close to what we had, but Berba is irreplacable.

Our midfield is slightly more solid with Palacios - at least thats the intention. Still no goals - but we aren't getting any worse.

I expect a comfy mid-table finish.

I'm not underwhelmed at all!

Look, we may need a LW, possibly a LB, a DM, etc. but that doesn't mean we didn't need strengthening in other areas too. The thing that is most missing from the squad is leadership and drive and in Keane and Palacios we have that. Also, Harry would want players who he believes can play to his system. Again, this isn't FM where a player who fits a particular role will usually be able to do a job. In reality, it's much more complicated than that. Furthermore, we have to consider the possibility that we went for players to fill in those 'problem positions' but they were unavailable, or were too expensive.

Those expecting us to solve all the problems in one short month and to assemble a Champions League challenging squad in that time are deluding themselves. The priority right now is Premiership survival and I believe we have captured the players that will help us do that, and also provide a base for building on in the summer once the crisis is over.

Surely it's wiser to walk before we look to run.
