Underinvestment in Players

Just going round in a circles and putting £ at front of every decision is costing us time and again.

1st team should come first not cheese rooms.

We all warned we needed players in the summer - we were not asking for Messi - we would have been happy with Grealish ffs.

It’s just boring now this constant underinvestment in the team.

This lies firmly at both Poch and Levy

Apparently the money was there to spend, Poch has to shoulder a lot of the blame for his stubbornness in the transfer market. He’s worked these players into the ground and It’s really starting to show.

I was happy to give the benefit of the doubt after both the summer and winter windows, but it’s really beginning to show that the lack of activity has cost us this year.

The squad now needs major surgery come the summer and we likely won’t have CL to attract players.

I totally agree and if we had invested, we could've cemented out position in the top 4 for a while because Chelsea have a transfer ban coming (plus Hazard would leave), and Goons aren't all that.

Failure to get top 4 this season could have serious repercussions and set us back years.

Kane is one of the best strikers in the world and he'll be 26 in the summer. How long will he hang around for? Plus we could lose Eriksen and Toby and I don't trust Poch and Levy to replace properly.

I think people are quick to point out that we dont spend much as an excuse and a valid reason for us apparently overacheiving

However the gluttony of the clubs around us shouldn't be used as a yard stick for where we should be.

How many teams in the PL truly have a better team than us? Not many imo

How many teams in the PL have a consistent 25 goals a season striker? 2 or 3 maybe

We also have a solid CB unit and other great players that other teams who spend loads of money would want. Like Son who has been a genuine POTY candidate.

Yet people complain about money. The reaction the dortmund post about us spending double of dortmund sums up my feelings on this subject.

Its easy to say money is the problem but I dont necessarily think it really is.

It's typical spurs. New stadium Europa League awaits. We had 10 points on the chasing pack. It's not even in our hands now. We have known for at least 3 if not 4 transfer windows that we needed a replacement for our best player Dembele. Going to a fifth window we appear no closer to having a replacement. However don't understand how our league performance compared to champions League.

How many Southampton, Burnley, Watford, Wolves players would get in our squad? Because those are the four sides who have come from behind to beat us.

Mental strength. Ours needs works.

I agree but what are we as fans going to do about it?

All I see on twitter is about how levy is a **** and poch is a bottler. How many are going to keep away from the games and not give the club their money? Or do a West Ham and make a statement to the owners?

After every loss we seem to go over and over these points. Don't do it to yourself.

The thing is we all know how the summer will go. Miss out on our top targets due to Levy fucking about with the negations and then in the last week of the transfer window we will bring in the scraps left over that the other real big clubs don’t want.

The claim I’ve seen in the last transfer window and last summer that we have one of the best scouting networks in the world still makes me laugh.

So your saying Poch is the problem?

I don’t think today was a squad issue. It was a combo of terrible coaching, commitment and complacency. The coaching staff were very slow to respond to soton changes. It was clear as day that we were seeing wolves and Burnley all over again. But they did nothing and it all went to shit. The players are also to blame. Totally lacked commitment to the cause. Lots of half hearted challenges and consistently second best to every 50/50. And that’s when complacency kicks in. The amount of brain fart moments out there was hilarious. And then you have the most basic inability to make a simple pass or run. So many were guilty of this today.

So, while I do agree that we messed up big time not bringing in more quality, today wasn’t a case of limited resources. They wanted it more, and our very fragile temperament fell to pieces.

A lot of truth in this.

Airs and graces on forums and social media won't do a fucking thing.

The almighty pound and the plastic in your wallet always make those in power take note.

And even then it will just be a token statement. The club wouldnt suffer from an empty ground financially due to tv money. It would be embarrassing for them though.

The West Ham thing is more effective but it won't happen. We will just all grumble and then sing about poch being magic when we beat a big team.

I still believe its a mentality issue right from top to bottom. The issue isnt that we wilt under pressure, its the fact we struggle with expectation. I think Poch is right to touch on this in interviews etc too. We've still got a long way to go to become genuine, ruthless winners.

I also think the squad flatters to deceive, there is undoubted quality there but the reality is we're still short overall.

Yeah I know. We've all been here before from our various soap boxes.

Life is the wheel and all that ...
