The thing is we all know how the summer will go. Miss out on our top targets due to Levy fucking about with the negations and then in the last week of the transfer window we will bring in the scraps left over that the other real big clubs don’t want.

The claim I’ve seen in the last transfer window and last summer that we have one of the best scouting networks in the world still makes me laugh.
Yeah, I must admit that I have misgivings about the scouting end of things.

Hindsight or not, a couple of fresh faces in January to invigorate the team would have helped. I always worried once we lost ground in the race for the title we would get complacent. This group of players are no longer inspired by finishing top 4.

Which brings us back to player mentality ... Happy to take the new contract but not happy to put in the hard graft ...

Circles and rabbit holes.

Whilst I do agree with the sentiment, this thread is utterly pointless.
Anything regarding criticism of team selections, coaching, substitutions, the ground delay or transfers could be considered pointless in fairness.

The thing is, some of us pointed to this already back in 2016, during the height of Pochettino footie. We were at a fork in the road, and accidentally we were starting to look like a regular CL team. 3 years ago, Levy had a choice. He could suck up the fact that we had gotten ourselves into a momentous positive wave and ride that wave for all its worth, which would require some bold, proactive, blue sky thinking, or he could sit still and do nothing, and hope that a rinse and repeat approach would be sufficient. Last season, some of us pointed out the the current approach had gotten us that far, but to go further, a change in approach was needed to stay flying. Simple web forum users spotted this, Levy must have spotted it to. But they chose the convenient lull of nothingness, and what momentum we had is spent.

I saw it on twitter and I agree with this sentiment; I agree with blaming a lack of investment on why we can't compete for the title but for me the manager and players we have need to take the lion-share of responsibility if we don't make top four. I know an additional midfielder in Jan would have helped greatly but that performance was 7/8 players performing poorly in the second half, exactly the same at Wolves and Burnley.

That's it, in a nutshell. The damage has already been done, back in the summer we sold Kyle Walker to a club who went on to be champions the following season. Now we're simply reaping the harvest we sowed 2 years ago.

Exactly. And two years ago, we were reaping the harvest of sowed to years before that. If we 2 years into the future will reap the harvest of what is sown now, well flip me over and call me Judy, we'll be facing Kazakruskun, winners of the league in Farawania on cold Thursday nights if we are lucky. If we are unlucky, on the other hand ...

Unfortunately it does fuel a worry that fans are simply 'punters' and that the new ground is simply a case of more 'bums on seats' and more potential to create match day revenue rather than being part of a plan to make the club a force on as well as off the pitch.

That's it. The stadium means nothing on a stand alone basis. As a component in a wildly bullish strategy, indeed it could have some potential. But for this specific club, it will business as normal, only with more empty seats on Europe League nights i November.

unfortunately this might not be the last time we get one like it. it's the same after every shock defeat. we all have difficult fixtures left, it just depends on if our boys can lift their heads up after a short break (hopefully a warm weather trip, and group building)

At least we will have a micro-brewery at the new stadium. A very important investment. It will take us places...more precisely to the arrest for being too drunk after losing against FC Borat in the Europa League.

That's what its always been.

This thing about players wanting to play at big stadiums and it's going to get us to the next level is over exaggerating the facts.

Players want money and on the pitch ambition. The stadium is abit further down the list of priorities I would've thought.

You could have left it at money.

All the rest of the guff they talk about, it's window dressing.

It's all about making bank, everything else is secondary.

Personally I cannot wait for la salle du fromage, which is your actual French for 'the cheese room'.

IMO spending zero coming into the season was a big risk after so many of our players went deep into the World Cup. Spending zero in January as well as losing Dembele was either complacent or plain stupid. We now have a bunch of players who are either suffering lengthy injuries or who look out on their feet. The CL is another huge drain on energy and the teams chasing us down can smell blood in the water. At the very least we needed a CM to help Harry Winks, and given his recent injury history it is quite staggering that Levy and Poch thought we would have enough.

Hmm to a degree but the very top players are that way because they have the desire to play for and be the best.

They like winning and getting paid like a winner.

Yeah, they do.

We're never going to be that, are we?
